I've been using Tether for Android Beta with my Sprint HTC Hero successfully with Android 1.5.

After upgrading to Android 2.1 I cannot connect.

On the PC app I get a message "Start Tether on Android" even though it is running on the device.

On the Android, I get a message on the Tether screen "Could Not Authenticate."

Then I get a device error message that reads "Error Code 67. Registration failure. Your PCS Vision Username and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again."

I never had or used a PCS Vision Username when I first set up Tether on the Android with 1.5.

Any suggestions?

Are you using a leaked OS?

No. I just updated to the official Sprint release of 2.1 for the Hero.

Looks like I found a solution.

Go to Menu > Settings > Application > Development > USB Debugging and be sure USB Debugging is checked.

When I did that the Tether application will connect. I am updating this entry using Tether for Android.

Hope that helps.

Yes USB debugging must be enabled to use Tether for Android.

OK. Thanks.

Evidently when I updated from 1.5 to 2.1 the USB debugging got reset back to off (which is probably default). I don't remember if / that I set to when I first installed the Beta app, so it wasn't an obvious setting.

But seems like there needs to be a reminder for those updating as I've learned of numerous others encountering this same issue after updating.

You are correct, USB debugging defaults to off as most people have no idea what it is or what it is for.

Your suggestion is duly noted, thank you.
