Is there a chance that you can have your plan terminated just by using this service or is it only if you go over 5gb of usuage?

No.... What I got from the rep when I talked to her was that we can do what ever we want with our phones and that VZW cannot monopolize the tethering feature or force us to pay for their service when we are not using it, but that if we go over our 5G that we will have to pay the overage charges. Just keep track of your usage on the VZW web site and should be fine. Now what they will do in the future...who knows?

it is my understanding that what i pay for with vzw in terms of my data plan in order to use my bb to begin with is unlimited data. now if they call it unlimited where does the 5G come into play? the only word of 5G i was ever given was when i paod for vzw broadband plan.

Sorry to Rain on about everyones party. LOL Most of the carriers talk out of both sides of their mouth, it is unlimited but if you hit 5gb or more we will know ur doing something that your not post to be doing. That is how they see it, if you can hit it then your abusing the service, to be fair it is against like almost every carrier to use tetherberry and not pay the carrier more. This is cat and mouse game consumers and corporate play. So my advise to anyone who uses this product if you ant paying the carrier more then stay under 5gb. Some of them will charge you if they can catch you.

As far as my knowledge goes I am unsure that there has been something such as this application to set a precedence by which you can say "some" will charge if they catch you.

I am interested to know of cases where there have been phones with data plans, an option to tether around carrier fees, while staying under the bandwidth limit, and the user was caught/charged.

Can anyone provide examples of this and such a carrier & device description?

The best advice is to simply review your carrier's contract.

I believe that with VZW's TOS, if you exceed 5 GB of data transfer in a month, they have the right to restrict your bandwidth (i.e. make yours run slower), but not charge you for an overage.

the way vzw explained to me the 29.95 charge per month for the unlimited data was so i could use my internet constantly on my bb. i have some apps that run all the time unless i turn off the phone. if this doesnt use more then 5G per month i dont know what does. if you have email to your bb then it is my understanding that your bb is constantly looking for email for you which means it is already constantly hooked up to the internet. but i am not vzw so who knows if what they sy is true or just a bs line to get me to pay more money per month.

I know people have been caught but they went over 5gb. I just cant recall an example to site, but it was from tethering not from using the phone. But like I said if you say under 5gb they most likely wouldnt even find out or care. I just cant think of example after a long day to give you or to search for, for you but it wasnt a blackberry since this is a new application first ever done as far as I am aware. I dont even recall the carrier who caught the person.

Everyone,

I was told by many people within VZW that unlimited means unlimited. Moreover, I just got off the phone with VZW supervisor and they stated, quote "the 5gb limit ONLY applies to the VZW tether feature. The Data that is used by the Blacberry (i.e. tetherberry) is totally separate from the VZW tethering and is UNLIMITED with no 5GB limit."

I asked about people getting charged for going over 5GB in a month and they said, quote "that had to be while using the VZW tethering application."

I am not sure how the other programs work but, from what I have seen (some u setup a connection and connect like a VPN) they use the dial in "tethering" type connection.

I think we can put this VZW thing to bed everyone...
