Has anyone contacted Verizon Wireless and gotten their input on this or what they will do? Just wondering before I go and spend the money on this.
VZW?
Interesting. It doesn't work on my Storm either. Have seen many comments from Storm owners.
I have a Storm w/ Verizon with leaked OS .109 and it works great. No issues installing it either.
In case it helps it definitely works on my VZW Curve (8330).
I had a hard time with my storm as well and what I found to work was to fallow these steps in order, maybe it will work for you as well:
do not plug bb into pc yet, close your bb desktop mgr, then open tetherberry on pc, you will get the small tetherberry window on screen and it will say "blackberry not found please connect it to pc with usb cable", now connect bb to pc and wait for tetherberry to say it is there and to start tetherberry on bb device. once you open it on bb you should see the numbers in the window start to climb and it will say connected or somthing to that effect. then you can open your browser and enjoy! this worked for me and has without a hitch since installing, now i am serfing with ease where ever and when ever i want. i hope this helps you storm owners out!
I tried this. Didn't help, the PC till says "Start Tetherberry on Blackberry"
I'm going to try after a fresh reboot.
PS I'm running Vista 64bit and when I start TB on PC I get a User Access Control warning, which I bypass.
Anyone else using Vista64?
Are you on a BES with the firewall enabled?
BES No firewall.
Rebooted PC with power-off.
Followed steps above to stop DM then start Tetherberry on PC before connecting storm.
Problem solved!
That worked for me. BB Storm Verizon Wireless. I also just updated the Storm firmware to 4.7.9.148 (Platform 4.0.0.181).
works fine on my storm...installed like a charm and quite a bit faster than my USB data modem
My experience with VZW tethering is exactly the opposite with my Curve. The VZW $15/month tethering is so unreliable that I dumped it long ago. This works flawlessly. Go figure. VZW's tethering offering is doomed based on my experience here.
Why would you want to contact VZW? They would step in and try to crush the competition or change the way they monitor traffic in order to line their pockets on their data/tethering plan. I wouldnt notify them.
They are going to stop it sooner or later. If it's too good to be true it usually is.
Our competitors MobiShark and PDA Net have been around for more then 7 years.
I have confidence that this will hold out, even against vzw!
We need to stand behind this and make sure people stay aware if a carrier tries to change the capabilities of our devices.
i would like the tetherberry team for this great app it works great
storm ftw
Very nice product once you get it working. For me several issues needed to be address. Does your computer have the latest BB Desktop Manager, v4.7. On one machine TB did not work until I downloaded and installed the full (111MB) Desktop and all was well. On the second machine the TB install worked flawlessly, but after being pestered by DM to upgrade I did - what a mistake. TB died and 6 hours later after removing DM and all traces from the registry and files. Restarting computer, pulled battery from BB, and reinstalling TB basic install - all was well. On the third maching it was a perfect install and when asked to upgrade DM I unchecked the box and closed, never to upgrade DMfull.
The battery pull on the BB is significant. The full DM install may be an issues, one works, one doesn't, and one I didn't attempt.
Current top speed is 440kbps with a bottom end of 110 kpbs.

If you wonder whether it is improper, read your terms of service agreement and see. Picking up the phone and asking them whether you can tether on a non-tethering plan will not get you the answer you want. If you find an ambiguity in your contract, bank it for a rainy day and use it to defend yourself if your carrier ever goes on the offensive.
Works flawlessly on my iBook G4 running 10.5.8 and my BB Storm with OS .148. Worked 1st time. Also works on my iMAC running 10.6 Snow Leopard (using the updated ver) Damn i love software that just works, that's why I use a MAC
I had posted in another thread this information...
I talked to my local store manager, he said that the "unlimited" data plan that comes with all BB's means just that UNLIMITED. Some Providers have a 5GB limit on their "unlimited" plans, but with VZ i have yet to get a bill.
Also I am running Vista Ult 64bit and never had to do anything but plug it in... Granted I am using a Tour. You may want to make sure the UAC is set right for it and maybe dumb it down using "compatibility" to XP SP2 or something like that.
I just downloaded the product and it installed seamlessly using the instructions. I am only getting 2-300K (download) in the same location that I get 1.5Mb using VZ Access (Verizon's tethering option).
Does it have anything to do with accepting the "Default" option when TetherBerry connects?
I am currently paying an extra $60 a month for two BB Curves to access the internet via VZW. If I just install the Tetherberry and don't start the VZ Access Manager when connecting my phone can I do the free trial before I tell them to remove the charges and tethering capability from my phone or do I need to do it first? Also how much is 5G of activity on a BB? I will check to see if my plan is unlimited but hate to find out the hard way.
I'm not sure why you're experiencing slower speeds. Some of our Verizon users report slower speeds and some report faster speeds. We tested it while we were in the US and we saw equal speeds.
Yes you can. As long as you don't start the VZ access manager.
VZW / 9550 works fine - no problems whatsoever
I've used Tetherberry for a couple of months and have gotten no extra charges above my normal Blackberry web enabling charges. I just reviewed my current bill online and saw no additional charges through Jan 15, 2010

Perfects! Just the answer I've been looking for. The original question started off with are there any fees but somehow the thread diverted into technical issues ;)
By the way, which carrier are you using? Verizon right?
im running the storm2 and last month i used over 9 gigs watching movies and family guy online thru my laptop (i was bored) and didn't recieve any fees when i checked myverizon.com it didnt even have a bit of red in the usage bar. i have unlimited and thats what they give you.
o also when i do a speed test i get between 565-701 kbps d/l speed on comp
Good to hear :)
Does connecting through a usb or via bluetooth make a difference? Is it still considered a dial-up type connection when using bluetooth?
In general, USB connection offer a better consistent performance then Bluetooth. USB connection also offer a convenience power source to the Blackberry device if you are planning to use in extended time. When using Bluetooth connection, Tether is not utilize the "Dial-up" profiles, rather it is a proprietary PAN connection between computer and blackberry.

This has always been possible with a standard dial up connection via the Blackberry internal modem. And at least that actually works. While this doesn't, not for me and my Storm anyhow.
