What does Tether say on your PC?

I am having the same issue on my Sprint HTC EVO. EVO has been updated to Android 2.2.

When I plug in the USB cable to the EVO I get a screen asking me to choose which kind of connection I want (Charge Only, HTC Sync, Disk Drive or USB Tethering). I choose USB Tethering.

I open Tether on the PC and get a screen that says "Could not find the Tether service, please close Tether and contact Support." I click the "OK" button at the bottom, and behind that warning screen is the Tether screen, and the window comes up asking me to choose Blackberry or Android. I choose Android. Then a screen comes up asking me to select a connection method, I choose USB (the only option).

Then the Tether screen says to "Start Tether on Android" after the word "Status".

I start Tether on the Android.

The Android Tether screen shows Smart Phone: Android, Connection: USB, Status: Waiting for connection over USB.

The PC Tether screen shows Status: Start Tether on Android

Then nothing happens -- and nothing happens, and nothing happens.

I can change the sequence of connecting / start PC or Android first / etc and nothing changes -- the result is the PC is waiting for me to start Tether on the Android, and the Android is waiting for the USB connection to happen.

Any suggestions will be welcomed.

Thanks

on edit: The PC beeps when I plug the USB cable in -- but no error messages about the USB connection nor yellow triangles. The PC is indeed seeing the Android as a drive -- shows up under disk drives as "HTC Android Phone USB Device", and it also shows up as "Android USB Device >> My HTC in Device Manager. "Tether Ethernet Adapter" also shows up under Network Adapters. The Android briefly shows a message in the top status line that confirms the type of connection I chose for the Android-USB.

PC is Vista, Tether v1.4.0.0 -- although exactly the same conditions happen with a WinXP and a Win7 with older versions.

Android Tether v1.0.0.0 60 KB

on 2nd edit: Win7 PC is Tether v1.1.0.2 -- and this PC shows HTC Sync error -1 and sometimes 2 -- rather random which one shows up -- in any event Tether acts same as described above.

Upon further review ......... somehow the "USB Debugging" got unchecked ....... checked it and all is well. Guessing this happened with the recent OS update and I missed it. I am sending this via Tether connection, so it is indeed working.
