I have been trying to get TetherBerry Version 1.0.0.6 to work ever since it was purchased several months ago. I was about to give up until I read some of the forums and tried a few of the following suggestions. It now works, so I hope I can be of help to those of you who have been as frustrated as I was. I have also tried installing TetherBerry on VMware Fusion, but to no avail. Possibly, one cannot have it on both platforms. At least I can have Desktop Manager PC edition on VMware Fusion with Vista 32 bit home edition until they figure out a way to make Desktop Manager for Mac compatible with TetherBerry.
Common error message while you have Mac BB Desktop Manager and/or PocketMac installed on your computer: "Type your password to allow Driver Tool to make changes. Response: Failed to load BlackBerry Interface".
Uninstall Desktop Manager and/or PocketMac, making sure that the following files have also been deleted if they still exist:
Drag the following folder to the trash:
/Library/Application Support/BlackBerry
Drag the following files to the trash:
/Application/BlackBerry Desktop Manager
/Library/LaunchAgents/com.rim.BBLaunchAgent.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.rim.BBDaemon.plist
/System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBVSP.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSB.kext
/System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSBDev.kext
Reboot your computer. Recheck to verify that all of the above files have been removed.
Reinstall TetherBerry with Airport turned off.
#1 Scenario:
After installing TB, launch from the Applications menu. You will see the TB box on your desktop. It will say BB not found. Connect your BB, turn it on and wait for the white volume icon to appear on your desktop. Now select TB on your BB, assuming that you have pre downloaded the proper application to your BB (http://tetherberry.com/d/tetherberry.jad). It should be active and you should be receiving and sending "packets", data, etc. if properly working. You must leave the application OPEN on your desktop. You should be able to connect to the internet.
#2 Scenario:
If the TB application is not working, check Network Preferences to insure that
there is a TB icon present in the menu bar, highlighted, and that it also confirms a connection. If it has the following error message: "Either the cable for TetherBerry is not plugged in or the device at the other end is not responding," then you must select "manually" configure IPv4 from the drop down menu and fill in the proper information. The following is the way mine looks, but yours will use other numbers.
Status: Cable Unplugged
Either the cable for TetherBerry is not
plugged in or the device at the other end
is not responding
Configure IPv4: MANUALLY
IP Address: 192.168.25.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.25.1
DNS Server: 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
The information above should be similar to, but not the same as the Network Preferences for Airport on the Advanced TCP/IP page. The way I got the proper information to fill in was to install TB with Airport active and it showed up on the TB Network Preferences page when the TB icon was highlighted. I then copied the information, uninstalled TB and rebooted. I turned off Airport, reinstalled TB, and plugged in the info in Network Preferences which I had copied. I launched TB from the Applications menu, connected and turned on the BB, selected the TB icon on the BB which was running successfully, and it worked and has been working ever since.
#3 Scenario:
If you don't have a TB icon in your Network Preferences menu bar, then you must uninstall TB and reinstall on your computer until you see one present, otherwise, it will not work. You also must not see any error messages and the advanced page in Network Preferences must include:
TCP/IP
Configure IPv6 should be turned off.
DNS should include servers
WINS should read: NetBIOS Name: MACINTOSH
Proxies should have nothing selected and you should see something like *.local, 169.254/16 in the Bypass proxy settings for these hosts and domains: box.
Use Passive FTP mode (PASV) should be selected.
I did not have a problem adding the TB app to my BB; however, I did make certain that BB allowed everything that I could allow in ADVANCED OPTIONS/browser push, made certain that I had the most recent software version for BB v4.5 installed, Mass Storage Mode Support was selected "on" in OPTIONS/media card and the TB icon is on the BB desktop and the app is in OPTIONS/applications.
PLEASE NOTE:
I do seem to have to uninstall and reinstall the TB app on my computer on a consistently frequent basis in order for it to continue to work. I have noticed that it works more frequently if I start the app directly from the applications folder rather than an icon from the dock. Sometimes the icon in the Network Preferences menu bar appears and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it appears with the DHCP configuration automatically present, and sometimes it doesn't. It
would really be nice if this application worked consistently; however, when you need it the most, it usually fails. It is tiresome and frustrating to be forced to uninstall/reinstall continually. I am looking forward to a completely stable update for the Mac soon since I don't feel that I have received $50 worth from this application.
