I tried tetherberry on Alltel with no luck. I do not pay for the tethering service from alltel, because it is too expensive and thought this would work.

I keep getting an error "java.io.IOException: Couldn't write in receive"

I have no idea what is happening, but the program detects my blackberry and says that everything is connected. I have also disabled all the other network connections on my PC. I am running Vista SP1 and a Blackberry 8830 on Alltel.

Any help would be much appreciated

Do you know if Alltel requires any APN settings? If so, have they been set properly? Also have you given all permissions to the TetherBerry application on your phone?

I have given all permissions to the application on my device.

I do know that CDMA carriers are not supposed to have to enter any APN settings, as all my other 3rd party applications work as they are. Even Opera Mini works in socket mode which tests the APN settings.

However, if someone knows something else about the APN settings for Alltel, let me know, but I cannot find anything about them anywhere

Can you load the Desktop Manager and see if there are any updates to the OS for your phone?

I checked for updates, none.

I am running 4.5.0.77 on my 8830, there is 4.5.0.122 or something that was released, but they are marginal changes, I doubt it would make it work.

Many other people are having this issue.

Also, an evaluation version should be created where you can only go to the tetherberry website just to see if it works on your phone.

Please update to the 4.5.0.122. I had to do something similar on another phone to make it work.

No 8830/8830WE 4.5 is approved from Alltel or Verizon.
4.5.0.127 fixes a lot of bugs.

Since when did Alltel charge for tethering?
