Tether is pleased to announce the launch of its latest product, Tether for Android, which targets the fastest growing segment of the smartphone market.
Tether, the Nova Scotia-based company that provides customers with dependable Internet access through their smartphone data plan anywhere there is cellular coverage, said the new platform is now available for download on its website, www.tether.com/android/.
Tether was launched in March, 2009, as a means of allowing people fast, affordable Internet access almost anywhere by letting them work on their laptops via their smartphone data plan. Having proven its success on the BlackBerry platform, Tether is now moving on to more platforms to expand its product range.
"We're excited to hit another Open Platform like Android, which is growing faster than iPhone & Research in Motion combined," said Tim Burke, CEO of Tether. "We noticed a massive trend of users migrating to this platform, and we are responding to the movement in the marketplace."
According to Gartner Consulting, Android accounted for 25.5 percent of worldwide smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2010. It is now the No. 2 operating system, exceeded only by Symbian, which had a 36.6 percent share of the sales.

separate license
How about a discount on a 2nd license? I now have one for my blackberry and one for my android. Ouch!

GTab and Blackberry
I want to join those who are calling for this capability. I bought a wifi only tablet and pay dearly for unlimited data on my blackberry. I do not want to buy MORE data at a minimum of $50/month from Verizon. If I have unlimited data, I should choose where and with what device I use. I love tether and currently use it when visiting my 'unconnected' elderly mother.
Tether developers, get busy!

How Does The Sprint News Affect Tether?
We were going to feature Tether on http://99Launch.es but are not wondering how this news affects you? You mentioned in a tweet that it was fun while it lasted. Are you talking about the unlimited data or Tether?
Excessive reconnections
I'm having an issue with Tether reconnecting several times a minute especially when first connecting. Is there any setting we can change so the Tether screen doesn't pop back up on the Android phone when reconnecting?
How about discounting for existing BB users
I know you provided a discount for BB users when you first announced, but how about continuing that practice. Why do I want to pay full price again just because I changed platforms? Why re-purchase when there are other cheaper products out there that seamingly perform the same task?
Tablets?
Great work on the Android product.
But when will you add Android tablets to the list of clients we can tether to our BB and Android phones?
How about an update?
