I just installed Tether and it works... Kinda. I have it connected but I have no internet through it. The Blackberry can still access the internet, but no connection is available on the laptop.

I have a Blackberry Bold 9700 and work with Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP Pro.

Blackberry firmware is: v5.0.0.423

What does the Tether log say on your BlackBerry?

With Tether running and visible click the BlackBerry key and select "View Log".

What does Tether say on your PC?

I am having the same issue.
My device log says: No Carrier specific APN for MCC:310 and MNC:0
My PC says: Connected to Blackberry

How do I find my APN for Verizon blackberry and where do I insert it?

Verizon does not use APN settings. Could you post a screenshot of your network adapters somewhere and provide a link?

Can you please describe what the network adapter is?

In the case of Tether the network adapter is a virtual network adapter, generally speaking a network adapter is hardware attached to your PC to allow TCP/IP connections.

On Windows 7 you go:

Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network Connections

You should see your network adapters listed here.

If you do not know how to take a screenshot please check the following link from Microsoft (this works in all versions of Windows):
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/tips/screenshot.mspx

Upload the screenshot to a site like flikr or somewhere similar and provide a link to the image.

I have the exact same problem!

After spending an age getting this far, I'm just left with a flashing blue light...and no internet!

I'm on a Mac running 10.6.3.

Any advice?

Additional info:
When I hit connect in system prefs / Network, the connection fails due to lack of connection to the PPP server.

I'm on o2 in the UK and am pretty sure I have the correct APN info.

THANKS!

SUCCESS!

After all that moaning too, I even requested a refund, twonk!

Try this link, it provide me with the basics to go and fiddle and tweak till I got the damn thing working.

http://claytonlong.blogspot.com/2010/01/tethering-your-mac-to-blackberry...

you may need to go looking for your specific APN settings but the key thing for me was to not include my telephone number in the telephone number field, (while configuring the Blackberry bluetooth DUN) instead put it in the account name...I know, nuts.

Good luck!

Tether does not use DUN, your tethering over your providers method and can be charged.

Thanks for that, can you give me a basic run down of how that works?
I am on an unlimited data plan but i suspect that doesn't apply here as I am bypassing my provider somehow, right?

If not DUN, then how should I connect?

Is the link sent duff or is there some method in the madness?

Thanks for the advice.

Okay, that's a bit worrying.
I have an unlimited data plan but I suspect that you are saying that I am bypassing it.
Can you explain what DUN is and how it works and also,
What kind of connection should I use instead?

Thanks.

Delete the paired device from your PC and BlackBerry.

Go to the following site: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/viewContent.do?externalId=KB04132

DO NOT follow Task 6, stop after Task 5.

Now launch Tether on your PC selecting Bluetooth from the dialog, launch Tether on your BlackBerry selecting Bluetooth from the dialog, you should be asked if you wan't to allow this connection on your BlackBerry..select yes.

You should now be connected to the internet with Tether over Bluetooth.

Don't worry,

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docTyp...

This worked.

Thanks for your help, I think you just saved me a fortune!

Just to check though,

on stage 8:
Verify the following information:

* Vendor: Research In Motion
* Model: BlackBerry IP Modem (GSM) or BlackBerry IP Modem (CDMA) - depending on the network type that the BlackBerry smartphone or SIM card is associated with.
* APN: internet.com - by default, the "internet.com" access point name (APN) is displayed.

- I used GSM as CDMA just rang my phone! and I changed the APN from "internet.com" as default, to my service provider's APN, is this the correct thing to do?

Thanks again.
