Great. I have a blackberry 8330 with sprint also. So it works fine for you? Did you have to add the additional "Phone as Modem" package to your plan with sprint in order for it to work?

I just installed this, and it works on a Sprint 8330 right out of the box. No "PAM" data plan necessary -- or even available from Sprint for BB users, apparently. You should also review the exact Terms of Service under your contract before using this for your internet access.

So far I've found the connect speeds to be underwhelming, to say the least. This is a last-resort solution at best, imho, to be used only in the absence of any other high-speed access.

I have 8330 on Verizon and it too is highly UNDERwhelming. So slow in fact that it timed out on several pages. 200 download and 30-60 up. I hooked up a storm with rev a and it was much faster. The 8330 is just too slow to be effective. I did the trial version and doubt I will buy one until I get a faster BB.

I have an 8330 with Sprint, and for the speed, price and use this is absolutely AWESOME. I don't think they intended for you to download music/movies etc. so thats not what I use it for. I use it as a safe and secure alternative to free Wi-Fi, as well as for when I am on Amtrak, and need to do work while I travel. Tetherberry works fast, and works like a charm.

I have the Blackberry Curve and the Blackberry Tour. The Tour runs about 5 times faster then the Curve using Teatherberry.

Using the Tour on the road is more then sufficient cruising the Web. Curve is a bit slow but in a pinch it works.

Tour Download runs an average in my area of 480 kbps and Upload of 160 kbps.

Curve Download runs an average in my area of 80 kbps and Upload of 48 kbps.

Not sure what if it is the modem, processor or what makes the Tour so much faster.

Everyone, we just found out there was a slight bug in the registration code process. It should be resolved now. Please update if it doesn't work for you!

For faster speeds you would probably need a newer BlackBerry.

So I started to do a bit more testing, I tested the phones d/u speed and I found by using extrem labs speed test that the phone itself is only getting 600-700 down and 100 up and I'm in a best sprit area coverage. Now with tethering and everything updated tether 1.0.02 blackberry .186 and windows 7 I'm getting on AVG 450 Down and 100 Up so it's looks like there no loss on the upload side but about a 25%loss on the download side. For whatever reason my home location which is in a fair sprint network area (Less bars). My download speed is less both phone is seeing about 350 down and tethering is about 350 down alomost no loss. My answer.. Somehting somewere is throting my download speed thorugh the phone.

I don't know how accurate Xtreme Labs Speed Test is. I ran it about 2 weeks ago about 5 times in a day. My ranges varied from 100kbps to 7000kbps, each time. Sometimes they would vary by that much in just a few seconds.

However when we ran Tether the speeds were always pretty consistent.

In my tests Xtreme Labs Speed Test is not accurate whatsoever (nothing against the developers) on a BlackBerry.

You can also cheat (get better results) using Xtreme Labs Speed Test by closing while in the middle of a test then reopening it quickly and running a test again.

Well guys not that the 8330 didn't work... In fact it worked great!, and the speed was Ok on AVG 500 Down and 100 UP... Someone mentioned to get any faster speed i might need a different phone, I upgraded to the 8530 and I'm getting 1000 down and 100 up, I'm also running 1.04.

Patrick,

Just downloaded .5 and now the PC displays "Blackberry not found" (USB) and Blackberry displays "Device must be connected to PC by USB cable".

Any suggestions?

On your BlackBerry I need you to go into the Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications -> highlight Tether in this list and hit the BlackBerry key then select "Delete". Remove the battery from your BlackBerry for one minute then place battery back into device and let boot. When the phone gets finished rebooting I need you to go to the following address in the BlackBerry web browser:
http://tether.com/t/1.1.0.6/Tether.jad

On your PC I need you to uninstall Tether, reboot the PC, and download the Tether desktop PC software from the following link:

http://tether.com/t/1.1.0.6/setupdrv.exe

Right click the setupdrv.exe file and choose "Run as administrator" to give the needed rights for Tether to install properly.

Disable the wifi on your PC if equipped and try Tether again please.

I also have an 8330 and I got rather slow speeds. I am trying to figure out what caused the slow connection. I could switch between tether and another similar software and get two completely different speeds. This is without moving the phone at all.

Hi, I am a Sprint user and called them today to ask about tethering my blackberry (8330) so I could use the internet on the road. I was told that they no longer offer the "phone as a modem" feature with any of their service. He offered me the plan for $59.99 that has 5 GB of data per month.

I currently have the Unlimited data plan and just downloaded the trial for tetherberry. So far, it works GREAT! I am a little worried that I may incur charges though and am curious what CURRENT issues others have had or encountered now that Sprint no longer offers Tether service.

Should I be worried? Are there other Sprint users currently using this with no weird charges, etc?
Thinking of going into my local branch on Monday to ask the guys there about it. They know me pretty well and I think they'll give me a straight answer. As it stands, I'm really pumped about Tetherberry and hope I can continue to use it. Thanks for any feedback.

From our talks with Sprint Reps., they stopped offering the Phone as a Modem package because they couldn't keep up with developing new versions for each phone.

We are currently testing updated BlackBerry Tether software, if your interested in trying it out perhaps the issue your experiencing will be resolved. You will be asked to update each time you launch Tether on your BlackBerry, please select no.

Uninstall Tether from your BlackBerry by following these steps from your Smartphone:

1) Click Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications

2) Highlight the Tether in the list of applications

3) Press the BlackBerry Menu button

4) Select Delete

5) Remove battery from your BlackBerry for one minute, replace battery and let device boot

Once the Tether application has been uninstalled and your device has rebooted, install Tether again by visiting the following link through the default BlackBerry Browser:

Do you have BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed on your PC? If so does BlackBerry Desktop Manager detect your BlackBerry via Bluetooth?
