on your computer go to the program files section under c drive and find the tether folder. get the .apk file and copy it to your droid card and use astro to install. that is what I had to do.

I guess I spoke a little too soon. Just got it to work and I'm actually on the 'net through my Android Tether connection now. Thanks Tether!

I followed ptfd13's instructions, using Astro to install the tether apk file and it worked great! I am posting this from my tethered Hero! :)

I transferred the file and installed with astro, but am not connecting. Using droid. For those of you who are connected, are you using the USB Debug mode, or did you turn it off to connect?

To get Win 7 to recognize Droid after connecting USB cable:

USB Debugging must be OFF
SD card must be "Mounted"

I have Tether on the laptop and the Droid but it will not connect.

So as of right now no Motorola Droid users cannot use this BETA? I got the e-mail but it says nothing about setting up the Tether on your phone.. lol.

I have a Droid as well on Windows 7 and no combination of USB debugging or mounted or whatever will work... it just does like everyone elses and both sides say waiting on USB connection.

Using Win XP and MotoDroid .
Connected Droid to laptop through USB connection . USB debugging enabled on Droid . SD card mounted to laptop . Ran Tether setup on laptop . When setup was finished on laptop it had installed Tether on both laptop and Droid . After setup was finished , I dismounted SDCard but left USB debugging enabled .I could immediately connect through the Droid to Internet . I am posting through the Droid now . Speeds are not the same as through my landline but it is quite useable for my needs . I test speeds using http://www.speedtest.net/ and the suggested test server . http://www.speedtest.net/result/743765570.png

Hi Guys,

Can you open a console window and go to c:\program files (x86)\Tether and run the following command and tell me the output.

adb devices

Also make sure your phone has USB Debugging checked. This is a requirement.

I ran this on my Windows 7 laptop, Droid is attached and USB debugging is checked.

It said List of devices attached:

There were no devices listed. I tried this with both the SD card mounted and unmounted and got the same results.

I tried raw's procedure on Win 7 and it does not work. Setup does not even try to install Tether on the Droid.
One of the problems seems to be that Win 7 will not recognize the Droid if USB Debugging is turned on.

I tried raw's suggestion and I am not working.... yet. With CMD I get the following:

C:\Program Files\Tether>adb devices
List of devices attached
040364FE0F00400C device

Running Windows XP
Motorola Droid: rooted, but no custom ROM

Tether starts on laptop and droid
USB connects ok
Getting NO packets
I was getting a java error on droid yesterday after initial install and connection for 5 seconds, but nothing further.

Same problem here. I agree the problem stems from the fact that I cannot have USB Debugging checked and also have the SD card mounted. If you check USB Debugging after the card has been mounted it will immediately disconnect the mounted SD Card. This is on Windows 7 with Motorola Droid. (Verizon Wireless)

Umm... your typing it in wrong.

The slashes are "\" not "/". Also, your Program Files may not be (x86).

Definitely seems to be a re-occurring theme with the Motorola Droid & Windows 7.

I've forwarded this info onto our engineer.

Droid users, can you try installing the USB drivers from here:
http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=bda09ec8009a0210...

Then plug in your Droid, then in the Start Menu go to install Tether on your Android. Then run Tether on both your PC & your Android.

If those don't work, try getting the USB driver from the Android SDK.

http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html

Those are the drivers I am currently using and everything seems to be working fine. I am on Windows 7 64-bit.

Finally got it to work. It's a driver issue. Do what droiduser33 said to do. uninstall any and all previously installed drivers, and just use the drivers from the Android SDK.

once you have that running find the optional stuff and click on the usb driver and have that install, then unplug your droid, uninstall all the previous drivers you've tried using, even the one that the tether instructions tell you to download... then reboot computer, plug in droid and it should work. windows will install drivers for the droid for 4 different things. hopefully this will help..

I had the driver issue but finally got that worked out with the Android SDK drivers. I am still getting the socket error. I am connecting now though.

I am running a Motorola Droid and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Download: 680 kbps

(This is pretty normal for the area I live in.)

No luck here. Motorla Droid and Win 7. I trying installing the SDK listed above. I think it was successful, but that all is a little over my head. Can someone answer me this: that SDK, is it basically a driver for android, or is there something you need to do with it on your phone, i.e. install it into one of the droid's folders?

I have tried every combination of USB debugging, mounted, unmounted, etc. and I keep getting the same message as most of the above:

"Start tether on Android" and "Waiting for USB connection."

I wish I could help you but I don't have a Android device, most of these Windows 7 issues are driver related and the issues I've had with Bluetooth tethering on my Blackberrry were also driver related...radio drivers to be exact.

Try to uninstall your device from windows and install the drivers from the Android SDK then plug in your phone and let Windows install the drivers.

Here is my two cents worth:

Motorola Droid, rooted, DroidMod 1.0

I have tried this on 4 different machines, all running various versions of Windows 7, both x86 and x64. In two of the cases, machines had been used previously to mount the SD Card and had worked without exception. In both cases USB debug mode was turned on.

I took a newly built Windows 7 x86 machine and loaded the Tether program. It correctly installed the ADP driver. From that point forward, it never made any other attempt to load the other drivers normally loaded for the Motorola A855. When I uninstalled the Tether drivers, rebooted, and then just plugged in the Droid, the 4 drivers loaded and I was immediately able to mount as USB. I tried installing with the the Droid attached and without it attached. Installed fine on PC, but had to email tether.apk to phone as it was impossible to get the USB to mount. When running Tether on both sides, no connection was ever made.

New machine, new build Windows 7 x64. Attached the Droid, and loaded all 4 default drivers automatically. Able to mount USB to SD Card. While attached, installed Tether on PC. Installed, but then made some attempt to access the Droid, with froze. Had to pull the battery. Uninstalled on PC, and rebooted. Uninstalled Tether from Droid. No longer able to mount USB when Droid attached to PC. USB tray icon see device, but no drive will mount.

Let me add that I tried all these configurations with USB debug enabled and disabled. No difference.

I am stumped. Any other configurations that I might try? BTW, installing the Motorola drivers referenced above had no effect whatsoever.
