I just installed Tether on both my pc and htc evo. I have usb debugging enabled, but i still get the same message telling me to make sure it's enabled.

the phone says waiting for usb connection. any ideas?

Could you try installing the following version of Tether on your PC to see if it resolves the issue:

I have the same problem. Works great on my macbook pro but the same "debugging" issue and "waiting for usb connection" with my pc. I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times with no success.

It was the HTC sync problem.

Could you provide us with the exact wording for what Tether says on the PC?

When Tether is running on the Android could you press the Android menu button and select "View logs". Could you provide me with the logging information?

It's very important that you write everything word-for-word from the questions above. If not we may end up going back in forth through emails longer then necessary.

I have the same problem as the original poster (HTC EVO 4G connecting to Windows 7 64bit OS) and since I didn't see a response to your question, I thought I would provide what my "Show Log" states:
Trial License
Waiting for connection over USB

When running Tether on my PC, it states the following on the status line:
Connected to Android,
Checking USB Settings.

Then this message flashes back and forth:
Please make sure USB debugging is enabled on your Android

I have installed the Android Market Tether app and the PC app using the recommended link in this thread. Continue to have same issue.

Looking forward to suggestions and resolution.

1.) On your Android click Settings -> Applications and place a check in the box for "Unknown sources" then click Development and place a check in the box next to "USB debugging".

2.) On your Android click Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> click Tether in this list and select Uninstall.

Download and install Tether from the following link please:
http://tether.com/a/tether.apk

Let us know if this resolves your issue.

Downloaded zip file on PC. Extracted. However, I can not locate a file in the new folder to execute the installation.

Tried downloading to phone twice from browser but get "Web page not availble" results.

I also followed email advice from tether to ensure that the Connect to PC setting is set to Charge only. I've also tried USB tethering, Disk drive and HTC Sync but to no avail.

Any further instructions?

Yes. I can download and install from the market. Still get same error message. Any advice?

Do you have HTC Sync installed on your PC?

If so could you remove it?

Tether has a known issue with HTC Sync installed on the PC.

Also select "USB charging" when plugging the Android into the PC.

Issue resolved. Apparently, the HTC Sync which was installed on my PC was preventing Tether from working. I was successful in tethering my EVO based on the recommendations from this thread. Thanks mhankinson! Now to test the app.

I also had the same problem as described above, followed your instructions and am now able to connect.

Question remains: When will we see an update that deals with HTC Sync. HTC Sync is an important tool when updating and syncing Outlook and the phone.

Been a satified customer so far (previos BB owner)...Thx

Tether is currently looking into the issue.

At this time we do not have a time frame at this time for the resolution.

I have tried all the above including new files to both phone and pc. using vista 64. when installing setup, it attempts to load driver and then states unable to install driver properly. I have disabled the antivirus and ensured all connections on phone are enabled properly. when I close the window stating driver is not installed properly, setup finishes install and says tether was installed. under device manager, it shows tether network adapter installed with driver version 1.1.0.0 and date of 7/31/2009. would really like to get this up and running. previously had installed for BB tour. Paid $29 times two to convert over to HTC Evo. Not happy about no bluetooth support. Didn't know that at the time.

i read the comments and having same trouble waiting for connection over usb is all i ever see on phone . what is htc sync . i did a search on my pc and it shows no matches. dont know what else to try any help?

I have the Moto Droid A855. I'm having the same issue. I've gone through all the steps above with NO success. Are there other settings within the phone that I would need to change. I had this on my old Blackberry and loved it. Now I have android and bought Tether 2 days ago and I cannot get it to work. Please let me know what I can try.

I have a moto droid A855 and Win7. I'm haveing the same problem. I tried everything posted here, with no success. Please let me know if theirs some other settings either phone or pc that I can try.

I have a similar issue with an original Droid phone. I am running windows 7 on two sepaprate laptops. On one system tether runs flawlessly, but on the second system it keeps flashing "Please make sure USB debugging is enabled on your Android". USB Debugging is checked, I have disabled active sync that was running on the second computer and I have also tried to uninstall/install the tether program. Any other thoughts?

To further expand on the mystery I just took a friends Droid2 and connected it to the same computer and tether works great!! So it will just not work with my original Droid phone.

1- Open Device Manager on your PC.

2- Locate the Android in the list.

3- Right click and select uninstall with the drivers.

4- Unplug and plug the Android back into the PC.

5- Allow Windows to install the drivers automatically.

6- Try Tether again once the driver have installed.

I have the same problem with my galaxy nexus it keeps telling me:Please make sure USB debugging is enabled on your Android.
I tried all the above please I need help ASAP, this is already a week like this.
