A few days ago tether stop recieving packets and I had zero internet connectivity, I tried downloading old versions for the Blackberry and pretty much everything else I could find in the support section I tried. However a developer would always say email tech support and then the person would come back and say the problem was fixed and a "fix" was never posted even though several people have this problem.

The fix I found was to edit the permissions for Tether on my blackberry to allow everything and as soon as I clicked save the internet started flowing.

Hello,

Just to make sure I understand what you are asking when you disconnect Tether you are still experiencing some packet usage?

Trying out Blackberry Curve 9360 Smartphone with tether app on old Dell desktop with Windows XP sp3, South African gsm network Vodacom. Access Point Name (APN) not set initially, giving an error. Now I set APN settings Enabled to ticked and APN filled in as "internet" and now sent and received packets keep increasing. Not sure why I lost connectivity for 2 days...noticed data bundle outside of BB data plan was being used up and got advice to untick APN Settings Enabled. These settings are found following menu as follows:

Options,Device,Advanced System Settings,TCP IP

To restart tether if no connectivity is evident it appears that starting the desktop tether first and following prompts on desktop and mobile phone helps. Brief removal of the battery in the phone could also have helped.

Comments please on
1) getting data plan (cheap) usage rather than data bundle (expensive)
2) correct sequence of starting tether
3) correct APN Settings Enabled menu screen

1) Some carriers charge for APN usage. Not all carriers do but the carrier you are currently using charges for APN usage. Tether is no work around for your carrier.

2) Start Tether on the Smartphone , Start Tether on the PC , Plug the Smartphone into the PC and start browsing the internet.

3) You would have to verify with the carrier for the correct APN settings.
