I have a linksys router setup with DD-WRT and openvpn setup. My bro in law has tether for his bb. When he connects to tether and then to the openvpn, his tether drops. After doing some google searching, nothing has come up. Any ideas what could be causing this?
openvpn
after we connect, then connect the vpn and try to open remote desktop it times out and then try to open mozilla, we get no internet. Tether still shows that it is connected, but it's not.
Just checked a couple of things, and I have noticed that when the open vpn connects, then tether loses it's gateway. That's where the problem comes up.
Could you post a link to a screenshot of your network connections?
As far as a ipconfig or network connections?
Output of ipconfig /all would suffice.
OK here it is:

Could you open a cmd prompt again, click the upper left corner of the prompt and select 'Properties', enable the option "Quick Edit Mode".
Now you will be able to copy the entire ipconfig /all log and paste it.
Right click is copy, so run ipconfig /all, select all the text, right click the cmd windows in the black area, past the text here.
C:\Documents and Settings\Ryan>ipconfig

Any ideas?
In your original post you were talking about dd-wrt, how does the router fit into the picture?
I have extensive knowledge of dd-wrt, depending on what build you're running this may be the problem. What is your router model and dd-wrt revision and is it a BrainSlayer build or Eko?
Did you ever get this problem resolved? I am in the same situation of needing to use OpenVPN over Tether. As soon as OpenVPN connects my laptop loses internet (probably a gateway issue like you mentioned). OpenVPN disconnects and then the internet starts working again.
Do you know which ports are being used when using OpenVPN?
Does Tether close on the BlackBerry when the issue occurs?
If it does not close could you provide me with the following :
When Tether is running on the BlackBerry can you press the BlackBerry key and select "View Log", could you provide us with the full text of the Tether log please?
It's very important that you write everything word-for-word from the questions above. If not we may end up going back in forth through emails longer then necessary.
Our company runs OpenVPN on tcp port 1194.
Tether does not close on the BlackBerry. As soon as I tell OpenVPN to stop connecting I gain my internet back without having to reconnect or relaunch Tether.
I will do some testing this afternoon and post my log.
I may have fixed the problem but it would be nice to know why. When I was first troubleshooting the issue last week I was messing around with routes and gateways. From the command line I think I deleted the 192.168.25.1 gateway. When I connected just now I wasn't getting any data transfer. I checked ipconfig and I had no gateway.
Thinking it would come back on its own I just rebooted. This did not bring it back. So I looked at the IPV4 settings on the Tether adapter and there was no gateway defined. I set it to 192.168.25.1 and it started working again. How is this gateway initially setup?
I then connected OpenVPN and everything worked just fine. I disconnected from OpenVPN, disconnected Tether and then reconnected to my wi-fi and I'm still online. I checked my routing table and the 192.168.25.1 is still listed as a persistent route even though I'm not using Tether right now. That doesn't seem to be causing a problem though.
I can't remember how I fixed it. Sorry.

What do you mean his Tether "drops"? Do you mean Tether crashes? On the PC or BlackBerry?
What is the BlackBerry model? What revision is Tether on the PC side?
