If browsing on my laptop will an incoming call take precedence over the Tether?
How stable will things be if the tether just stops transfer instantly? Consider the browser is in the middle of running a javascript routine when the call comes in.
I am leaning towards Droid but I may be buying a BB so would like the answer to suit both.

It depends on the carrier not the device, if your on a 3G connection then you can browse and talk simultaneously.
A page would simply timeout if you answer your phone on a CDMA connection while using Tether, also Tether in no way interferes with an incoming or outgoing call.
