MacBook to Sprint Samsung Epic 4G - not finding device

after launching app on both my MacBook and Sprint Samsung Epic 4G, it seems neither one is "seeing" each other over USB. Tether status on MacBook says "Network adaptor was found. Could not locate the android device." Tether status on the phone says "Waiting for connection over USB". USB cable is securely plugged into both, and both devices recognize the USB is there. Product is a purchase, not trial and registration process is complete. I have had this since early July and have not been able to use it at all. I previously had Tether app on my BB (tethered to same laptop), so I bought it again when I got a new phone.

All previous versions have been uninstalled prior to installing new copy for Android and Mac.
Please help quickly as internet service at my home is inconsistent at best!

Hello,

Can you check to see if a Tether Network Adapter has been installed by clicking on the Apple icon, then System Preferences, then Network. Please advise if there is a Tether Network Adapter installed, as it will help me assist you with a resolution.

Just downloaded tether for the EVO 4G.
Carrier is Sprint.
Info from the phone: Connection: USB
Device Id:
Lic: Trial
Packets: 0 UP 0 down
Status: Waiting for connection over USB
On my MacBook Pro;
Smart Phone: Android (cannot click on icon)
Connection Type: USB (cannot click on icon)
Go down to: Status Line: Could not locate the android device.

Per your reply to mariepthree, no tether Network adapter has been installed in the network.
Also, do I need that "simply everything plan with sprint"
Am a previous owner of Tether for the Blackberry Tour. Worked great on my macBook Pro.
What do we do?
