The client app works fine on my Storm, however no connection is actually made to the computer. (Even though it shows successful on the phone)

******** admin edit *************

We seem to be having problems if you have PocketMac or Media Sync installed. You should do the following before running tetherberry. We'll be adding in this solution into our software shortly so in the future our software will do this, instead of the end user.

sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSB.kext
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSBDev.kext

and when done running tetherberry do

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSB.kext
sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSBDev.kext

If there is a file called RIMBBUSB.kext in their Extensions folder they should do

sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext

and when done do

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext

Hello all,

I had to uninstall and reinstall a couple times to get the new mac beta to work. So I created an uninstaller. I will post the link below for anyone who wants to download it.

Same for me, until I switched to direct connection, then it worked great.

Same problems here. The BB client connects. The mac client fails by saying "Failed to load blackberry device"

Maybe this is more of an alpha?

Not the same problem here. I'm guessing you guys are all a bit further than me. My Blackberry just says "DNS Error. Failed to locate the server." The GUI on the Mac just says "Status: Unknown State". What does that mean? MacBook 2,1 with Leopard; Blackberry Storm 9530 4.7.0.122 on Telus in Canada.

I'm on a storm, Telus .122.

Blackberry application seems ok.

"Attempting a connection
The connection was successful
Connected to PC with USB cable
Application Started.

TetherBerry GUI on my MacBook (10.5.6) says "failed to load the BlackBerry Device".

Also, I'm curious about the network adapter? It seems to have created an Ethernet Connection (en2)? I was expecting something to say USB.

Not working here either... mine connects on the blackberry but the mac client says "Failed to Load the Blackberry Interface"

I get the same message 'Failed to Load Blackberry Device' when I connect my 8300 curve to my MBP. One hint: when it installed it said a new network connection was added and opened the sys preferences to the network tab. But the new connection was 'Ethernet(5)', an ethernet connection in DHCP mode. No Ethernet cable is attached so it's reporting no cable attached (I'm using Airport). Anyway this seemed out of place so thought I'd report it.

chaoscreative, you can think of that as a "virtual ethernet connection" that tetherberry is supposed to work through.

I'm getting a similar problem to what others have reported--the Mac GUI says, "Failed to load the BlackBerry interface," even though the blackberry client doesn't display any error messages, and behaves as if everything is working correctly. I've turned the Mac firewall completely off, but that didn't help.

I believe I found the problem. Or at least my issue. You need to completely uninstall Pocketmac using the uninstaller. Not just deleting the pocketmac icon. I am up and running now.

This is of course assuming you have pocketmac installed.

I don't know why they offer pocketmac, it kills the Blackberry media manager too.

The uninstaller which I saw posted earlier was for the Tetherberry not the Pocket mac. Does anyone have a link for the pocket mac uninstaller? Thanks.

From crackberry site found at:http://crackberry.com/tetherberry-mac-beta-now-available#comments

To everyone who is currently tethering with their mac and confused about why our product is useful, we'd like to explain. The only tethering method we are currently aware of is directly through BlueTooth, in which case the speeds are already limited about 256 kbps. Our version uses USB where we've had users report speeds up to 1,800 kbps.

We seem to be having problems if you have PocketMac or Media Sync installed. You should do the following before running tetherberry. We'll be adding in this solution into our software shortly so you don't need to do this part.

sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSB.kext
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSBDev.kext

and when done running tetherberry do

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSB.kext
sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSBDev.kext

If there is a file called RIMBBUSB.kext in their Extensions folder they should do

sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext

and when done do

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext

I would think that the best thing for Tetherberry to do is to re-send the email with a link to the NEW tetherberry for MAC software that includes the fixes that are listed above. Much better than expecting others to do the fix. Thanks Tetherberry. :-)

Haven't been able to get this to work since I got it. Running Mac Leopard and Sprint BB 8830 Tried the instructions above and got this when unloading/loading the RIMBBUSB.kext:

Macintosh-4:~ $ sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext
kextunload: /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext: no such bundle file exists
can't add kext (file access/permissions).

Macintosh-4:~ $ sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kextkextload: /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext: no such bundle file exists
can't add kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext (file access/permissions) (run kextload on this kext with -t for diagnostic output)

I'm getting the same issue. I tried the script. No files named BlackberryUSBDev.kext or BlackberryUSB.kext are found. I do however have RIMBBUSB.kext.

Blackberry is displaying a network connection but application shows "Could not find the network adapter". Ethernet connections are set to DHCP only.

i have a MACBOOK PRO with 10.5.6 OS X and a VZW Storm and this is what i did and it worked but its very slow:

1. installed tetherberry but never saw anything about a new network connection.

2. added a new ethernet (en2) connection with DHCP auto

3. opened up terminal and copied and pasted the following one after another:

sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSB.kext
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/BlackberryUSBDev.kext
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/RIMBBUSB.kext

4. chose the DEFAULT connection on storm TB app

5. started the client on the phone app

6. started the TB on my mac, and right away i started seeing packets being sent and recieved so tested few sites and it worked but very slow. went to speedtest.net and got .29MB for DL and UL took too long so i just closed it but it was working just slow.

i do have AUTO MASS STORAGE set to ON in the phone options but when the icons pop up i just eject them.

Okay, I was not able to get the thing to work and then tried a few things and got it working, her we go...

Storm 9530 Verizon
Aluminum MacBook 10.5.6

I had previously installed PocketMac and the driver and just did the regular old delete
Downloaded and reinstalled PocketMac and Driver from BB website and used Uapp to delete the program and associated files (You can get from Apple's download page)
Went to terminal and unable to do *load* *unload* sequence as suggested by Tetherberry person here and on Crackberry website so I copied and pasted to desktop and deleted files in Extensions folder. I did not have the RIMBBUSB.kext file so did nothing there.
Restarted MB (9530 not connected)
Opened Tetherberry on MB
Opened TB on 9530 (set to Default mode and waited for it to make connection and asked to connect to USB)
With both applications running and USB cable connected to MB, I connected other end to 9530 and since my 9530 is set to prompt for HD is selected 'Yes" and was up and running...packets start sending then received after about ten packets sent.
Did a speed test and ran at 256k down 13k up

This process must be completed exactly for me to make a connection. If the connection is lost when quitting from the 9530 or the MB, for example, I have to restart the MB and close the app on the phone and start the process all over again. I saw nothing remotely close to 1800k and the best test I saw was 270k down. Unless this speed thing gets fixed, I don't think I will be willing to spend the $50 or so for this app.

I have high speed internet specifically to get away from the days of endless progress bars!

Bell Storm 9530 on OS 4.7.0.141
Brand new MacBook Pro with NOTHING 3rd party installed.

Had the same issue as everyone else. Got it working by running the kextunload on blackberryusb.kext before launching the Tetherberry application on the Mac. After running that one command, then launched the Mac application, it connected and was working. Didn't have to unload blackberryusbdev or re-load any of them.

I'm a paying customer and it is working rubbish speeds since yesterday...server overload? ...what the &%"·$% is going on?????

You shouldn't have to change the ethernet connection settings as long as it's set to DHCP.

In that case, it doesn't sound like the Ethernet connection is the issue.

What does the Blackberry connection status say?

All,
I have done the following, and the Mac GUI is still displaying "Blackberry not found". I have a Verizon Blackberry Storm 9530.

-had PocketMac...un-installed using the PocketMac package uninstaller
-rebooted MBP (running 10.5.6); still no connection; "Blackberry not found"
-Now that I had uninstalled PocketMac, I do not have any of the kext files in my Extensions Library...so, that didn't work.
-via System Preferences, added a new ethernet (en2) connection with DHCP
-the Blackberry has Mass Storage disabled
-the Blackberry app is showing "Application Started", as it should
-have tried connecting using both "Default" and "Direct" connection types on the Blackberry app - no difference
-I've tried starting both Tetherberry apps before connecting the USB cable; still get "Blackberry not found" on GUI.

Any further ideas? I've done everything that I've seen suggested, either by you all, or Support, and still have no connection.
