Latency spikes

I need Tether for latency sensitive applications. When I ping a server, the times look something like this:

350ms
350ms
350ms
350ms
900ms
350ms
350ms
350ms
350ms
900ms

and so on. 350ms is slow, but fine, but I can't keep having those 900ms spikes every few seconds. This problem appears to be worse at certain times during the day, happens on multiple Blackberries using different carriers, and does not occur on Android or Windows Mobile devices running PDANet that I have tested in the same location on the same carriers.

Since Tether is utilizing the cell carrier services and via Blackberry BIS/BES infrastructure, you will notice higher latency then if you are connected via cell data infrastructure directly, such as carrier's DUN services. What you are listed are typical..

I realize the 350ms is normal, but why does it spike to near a second? It's clearly capable of going through the infrastructure much faster most of the time.

Acaden, are you always on the same server when you are figuring out the latency? You can check by going to whatismyip.com.

Also, please note the hardware in a BlackBerry is much different then a Windows Mobile phone.

Hmm...looks like the issue has gone away, at least tonight. Thanks for the replies.
