I have an end user I put tether on his blackberry bold 9700. He is trying to upload some files through a program that uses a secure ftp site. He gets an error communicating when tethered but it works fine when connected to the lan.
Do you know which ports are being used to conntect?
It uses port 21
Which FTP client are you currently using?
Are you receiving any specific error message?
Its a program called mzb tools, its built within that program to upload. Basically what they are getting is an error it can't communicate to the ftp site.
Could you try using Internet Explorer to connect to the FTP site to see if the you have the same issue?
I want to rule out the FTP application you are currently using.
I was able to use internet explorer and get to the ftp site login. I have the software application people looking into it for me. Thanks
I did some troubleshooting with the software company, we used command line to connect up to their ftp site and try uploading a small file. I was not able to do it through tether, but could when connected to our lan. I can connect up and login to the ftp site, but as soon as I try sending the file it times out and drops me.
You stated in the previous post you were able to use internet explorer to connect to FTP.
Does FTP work correctly with Tether and internet explorer?
I was able to connect to the ftp site through web and then browse it with windows explorer and paste a file in it.
If that is the case there is an issue with the FTP client you are currently using.
Please contact the FTP client for further troubleshooting steps.
I did contact the company they had me try using windows command line to upload the file and it fails when doing that so it is not an issue with their software.
That doesn't make any sense if you can transfer a file with Internet Explorer and not through there software/ command prompt.
1 of 3 FTP clients are working.
Could you provide me with the command they provided you to test?
Connect up to the ftp site in the command line ftp ftpsite, then it prompts for username and password. Then had to type lcd and the location of the file. Then type in put and then file name. It should upload then.
Information from developer:
"FTP must be run in passive mode with Tether. Server to client connections are not possible, which is what is done in active mode."
Ok thanks for your help.
