Right now, I'm using Tether as a temporary internet connection as my landlord sets our building up with broadband. I have no problems browsing with it, but when it comes to watching videos and playing World of Warcraft, it chugs like no other. My two questions are:

Is there ANY way I can increase connection performance with Tether?
Is there a way I can set it to not boot me offline when I get a call or text message?

I use a Verizon BlackBerry Curve 8350.

There are a number of reasons why Tether maybe running slow. The common reasons are you have a lot of background processes running on your phone which are consuming a lot of data or you have a lot of programs running on your computer trying to consume all of your bandwidth. Make sure you have bandwidth consuming applications turned off.

Another major factor in the speed is your phone model and the type of connection you are receiving. If you are not on a 3G phone your speeds will be much slower. Also, your speeds may vary if you are in largely populated area since more people will share the data connection at a given time.

Could you let me know what phone model you currently have? What type of network connection you get? What speeds are you currently seeing? Could you provide me with the signal strength on the BlackBerry by going to the following:

Options -> Status

If you are connected to a EDGE or 1XEV network Tether will disconnect when receiving a call or text message. This is by default.

The phone is a BlackBerry Curve 8530.

I just closed every application I could, and the speeds I'm getting are:

Sent: 0.944 MB
Received: 2.738

Both numbers are steadily climbing bit by bit.

The signal strength is -85 dBm.

My network is Verizon Wireless, if that's what you mean.
