Just got the HTC Incredible and would love to beta the android version. I current use the Blackberry version of tether and love it but now unfortunately its useless since i got the Droid....HELP!
HTC Incredible
I'm in the same boat! I applied for a Beta for Android but haven't heard back.
My Incredible will be delivered tomorrow - I'd LOVE to be able to Beta test Tether on it!
Same boat here as well. PLEASE send out the beta already! We've signed up and still haven't received anything.
The developers get many many emails about the Tether for Android beta, please give them time to respond.
I too have left the blackberry for the HTC Incredible run circles around the blackberry. Would like to transfer my subscription to Android.
Yes I imagine that 1ghz Snapdragon is quite quick.
I too have plans to get an HTC Incredible, however will maintain my Blackberry Tether subscription for travel outside of the USA. I would also like the HTC Incredible to be able to run Tether and have no issues purchasing another Tether plan for it. Any word when the beta will be out for the Android family of phones?
No set date, there are a few bugs left to squash and Tether for Android will be released.
Are we there yet?
Are we there yet?
Are we there yet?
How about now?
now?
(anxious, potential beta-tester) :)
have a great day!
Has anyone who got an Incredible received a beta invite?
Nope. I've already moved on to EasyTether. I think they've lost me and would have to basically give Tether to me for free, or promise some crazy increased speeds over the alternatives.
EasyTether only allows USB connections. Tether for Android will support Bluetooth and USB connections.
Ehh, Bluetooth is spotty at best, a lot more hassle to set up, and lower speeds.
We are definitely sorry to lose any of our customers, Tether for Android is nearing release with each day that passes.
Closer with each day that passes???
Reminds me of the Pink Floyd lyrics:
"Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."
Trying to figure out if your career history is in politics , marketing, or songwriting.
(All meant in good fun)
Kidding aside, it is now three weeks since your "each day that passes" post; can you provide info on beta (signed on > month ago) or potential release window?
Thanks & regards,
Anthony
I went with PDAnet it has USB/Bluetooth support. I had tether and it worked great for my blackberry but Tether kind of dropped the ball with not having a version for android when all the blackberry peeps jumped ship to the incredible.
I would of gladly stayed with Tether but I just couldnt go without internet on my laptop.
I have a feeling that if they make me pay more money, since I already purchased a license, I am jumping ship also. The reason I signed up for tether instead of the others was because they allowed your license to transfer from one device to another, now they are going to change that because they are developing for android...I think we old timers should be grandfathered in.
Hey Gang,
Tether is a great app no doubt about it for the bb. . .but so many people jumped ship to the android o/s due to bb inability to keep up with current o/s.
I've used Tether since day 1 and have nothing but good things to say about it.
I got the beta for android tether and couldn't get it to work.
I downloaded pdanet on my htc incredible and onto my laptop and have been using it for about 1 month.
It's faster then tether with my bb storm. I've had no problems with pdanet and it's 100% free.
if/when tether releases an android version i will most likely give it a test run as well, but for now more than happy with pdanet.
Just my .02 cents.
Cheers,
Snoop
I agree with you Snoopy. I've enjoyed using Tether, but I just got my Incredible two days ago. I signed up for the Tether Android beta before I even ordered the Incredible, but haven't heard anything yet.
I downloaded PDANet for free and am using it right now. The only downside it after so long, you can't access secure sites unless you purchase the full version of PDANet.
If I get to that point and still haven't heard anything from Tether, I'll probably pay for and permanently switch to PDANet.
when can we expect Tether Android? I am about to get rid of my Storm for a Droid Incredible.
The beta emails have been sent out.
A quick note for all users swithching from BB to Android:
The install on my Vista laptop went extremely smooth. I uninstalled the previous version of Tether (BB) then downloaded and installed the new version. It worked like a charm.
I also installed the pc software on my Vista netbook but the process didn't go as smoothly. I unintalled the previous version (BB) but my netbook didn't completely unintall all traces of the software. It was necessary to reboot and manually delete the remaining files. Once all of the old files were gone I rebooted the netbook again just to be safe. Then the new software installed and Vista installed the correct driver for my Incredible and everything worked as expected.
I wanted to share this experience with any other users who are having problem with their pc recognizing the Incredible and installing the correct driver.
I would also like to mention that the emailed instructions from Tether DID state that the old version should be uninstalled prior to downloading and installing the new software.
I have happily used Tether for BB for more than a year... it worked great over USB and the added ability to use bluetooth was a sweet improvement. I anxiously await the improvements to the Android version to allow use over bluetooth.
Thanks to the Tether team for continuing to develop a great application!
Chad
Thanks for the review/update...
I must have been knocked off the beta list :), so, looking forward to the final app...
I have the HTC incredible. Had tether with my BB storm, and it worked great. Right now I can't get the tether to connect to my phone. Both the computer and the phone say "waiting for connection over usb" I have tried changing the "connect to pc type" on the incredible to everything listed, but nothing is working. I do not have HTC sync installed. Do I need to do this first for it to work?
No you do not need HTC Sync for Tether to function.
It wouldn't function before when I would choose HTC sync on my phone and HTC sync was not installed on my computer. After installing HTC sync on the computer, Tether connects and functions properly. However, HTC sync will not connect to my phone. Don't know what is going on there, but don't care for HTC sync anyways.
Interesting observation, I am uncertain why you would have needed to install HTC Sync.
I do not have an HTC device to investigate further unfortunately.
We appreciate your findings and you taking the time to come back and post the resolution that worked for you.

I responded in your other post.
