How are upgrades to Droid handled?

I was just curious as to whether my license will be allowed to transfer to a Droid if I decide to switch from BB in the next month or so. The Droid looks like a great device and having the license transfer would be important in my decision to switch. I could have bought another license during the recent sale, but figured it wouldn't be necessary. Please advise.

Yeah, this is also one of my biggest concerns.

Sorry, we haven't made a decision on this yet.

Well, I think it would be great if you did allow this. In my case, I haven't had the software for even a year yet. It sure would stink to lose my license I paid full price for. Especially when I could have bought another license during the recent sale.

Being that i just purchsed the software 9 weeks or so ago and just got a droid last week i would be very unhappy if i had to re-purchase the same software i bought just because i got a new phone. I would simply not use this product any longer. I hope you allow to swich to a droid just like you can switch to another blackberry.

I would be disappointed if I lost tether. I use it quite often.

I share the concerns of everyone who has commented on this thread. This is not a cheap application. If it were a $5 app, then I would cut my loses and purchase it again. But if I have to fork $50 again!? I would simply boycott the app and go back to not having a tethering ability. Come on tether, do the right thing.

I'll agree with the above people. I'm considering an Android phone in the future and would be upset if my Tether license didn't transfer.

I would thing it would. It only makes sense as a company to do this. If not there are other programs out there that will do the same thing.

I'm sure a competitive upgrade pricing plan will be made for going to new types of supported devices, but I do not wan't a fifty dollar purchase make me feel like I'm now tied to my phone....my phone is tied to me.

I bought Tether only 3 weeks ago for $50, and now it's on sale for $20 dollars less. When I switch to a Android device I won't be willing to spend any more than that, I'm fluent in embedded linux devices and am not scared to root.

It should be the same as if you switched to a new blackberry.why should i pay more to use the same program just on a new device with a different os.

i think you all are complaining about the tethering with droid. Don't forget this is a beta test and that where we find things that work and don't work. I am having trouble with java.net socket closing . I am sure they will come up with an answer soon.
Good luck to all

Appreciate the feedback guys, but we will not be making a decision until we go from beta to public application.

I'm fighting hard for you guys though :)

Thanks Patrick, I would really like to switch to an Android based device.

Maybe the resolution could be that it be a one time free deal when going from one device to a whole new device.

This way we all win, we get to keep our Tether and you still get to charge us if we go back to our previous device (not full price, competitive upgrade) or a new device when supported like Windows 7 Mobile.

This way also takes care of future upgrades.

I buy Tether and I have a BlackBerry.

Not satisfied with the BlackBerry I go and get a Motorola Droid, I would simply download Tether to the Droid and enter my old registration code and pay nothing.

Now I buy a new Windows 7 device in six months, I go to Tether.com to login to my account and hit the "Change Hardware" button, this takes me to a page that shows $15 (just a thought) and a checkout button, click checkout and pay, wait a few minutes and check your email for confirmation code, enter this code into Tether on my new Windows 7 phone.

Now in a rather easy, painless way we have upgraded and can get our Tether on. Without having to keep paying full price for software that is also an upgrade.

I thought about it more and a time limit could be put on how long the initial free upgrade period would last, it wouldn't be fair for it to last forever.

I feel a minimum of six months and a maximum of one year is fair to both the end user and your company.

I think when you add time restrictions and that kind of stuff you make it more complicated to the end user. I'm a big fan of K.I.S.S.

I am with you guys on the free swap over. I am about to purchase a phone and I am leaning to Droid because it is OS.

My DSL runs out in about two weeks so I have to decide soon. I do like the BB Storm though.

This IS a "tricky" thing - part of the license is for software on your laptop/computer, the other part is for your mobile device. My personal feeling is that i paid $50 within the past year, let me transfer to my new mobile device for free...the support i would receive for my old mobile device just transfers to my new....

However, if it's a matter of cost to the developers, they should hopefully rely on funds coming from NEW customers on the NEW devices....if existing customers are penalized for their commitment to the software, the negative word of mouth could outweigh the monetary gain from those that "stuck around"...not to mention the potential decrease in new revenue from bad publicity...

To the developers/company: Please let us, the existing users, be a proponent for your software. Help us realize the value for what we have paid for.

Thank you!

PS - I forgot to mention that so far, my use of the software with a Windows 7 laptop and the BB Tour have been flawless, even while traveling in europe(I reside in the US). That alone made the cost worth it.

There could be no more payments made or transactions handled through Bank of America for WikiLeaks, as the financial institution refuses to do business with the organization. There is a growing list of companies to do the same as B of A. Some think it's a retaliatory act. There's a WikiLeaks discharge planned in 2011 that concerns the banking industry. A bank does not have to take free a cash advance to choose how to proceed with their finances.
