When I connect my Blackberry to my MAC it shows that the connection has been made and it starts sending and receiving and the screen on the Blackberry Fills Up with the message: Failed writing data:java.io.IOException error. Then the screen on the Blackberry flashes Field Full.

I am on US Cellular which is Verizon. I would like to purchase this product but will not spend the money if I can not get this Trail to work.

Thanks for your help
John

I have bought the application, and have not had any problems after I figured out myself how to get it installed. Now I have been using it for about 2 weeks and haven't had any problems but now it says connected, please connect usb cable to computer, and when I do, it says really fast this message then disappears, i had to pull it up 5 times just so I could read the message and write it down......
Connected to P.C.
usb thread i.o. IO Exception
illegal channel
usb thread dead

Hi. I have a Blackberry Curve (8330) on U.S. Cellular's network. I also get the java.io.IOException errors. A dialog box pops up saying "Field is full".

I've updated the device software to the latest version available (v 4.5 I think) with the same result.

Could the carrier be blocking a port (e.g. 80) on the receive side inside the device? The reason I ask is because I was researching how to tether the blackberry a few months back and the instructions said that I needed the APN (Access Point Network)? settings. Well, I called U.S. Cellular's technical support and explained i was trying to tether my blackberry. They told me that I would have to pay an additional $10 fee each month to tether my device.

FIXED! I was browsing the forum and found that a user fixed this issue by downgrading his Blackberry OS from 4.5 to 4.3. So, I downloaded and installed the 4.3 OS to my Blackberry Curve (8330) and TetherBerry worked with no problems! To find and download archived OS for your blackberry device, go to http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads

and click on your carrier.

Good luck.

Interesting about the downgrade, but I've seen other "fixes" that I did try and they didn't work on my ATT 8310 Blackberry App Version 4.5.0.52.

I would really like for Tetherberry to work, but until it does with the latest BB version, I'm not going to risk the purchase price.

I don't recall all the features I gained in the last OS upgrade, but recognizing a larger memory card was one important thing, and the video camera was another. Hopefully there will be a compatible Tetherberry version for the 8310 some time. I'd prefer to have a 3G Bold of iPhone with Tetherberry, but that's not in the immediate future.

I tried the latest version today (27Aug2009) and tried each connection type. It was the same IOException error as before.

Come on Tetherberry...

I have tried this newest version (1.0.13) on my BB Bold 9000 (v4.6.0.92, platform 4.0.0.117), and still comes the same java.io.IOException error.

I puchased Tetherberry lat week from my 8300 which is using latest 4.5 OS. I wish I had seen this forum first. I get the same java.io.IOException error and find the software useless unless the problem is resolved. The advantages of 4.5 over 4.3 are enough for me not to downgrade. Is there a fix for this ???

Java IO Exception Errors

My experience with Tetherberry is similar. I've been surprised and disappointed with their response. Perhaps this is only a part-time business.

I have a BB Storm, and my carrier is Verizon.

I kept getting javi.io.IOException errors like the ones described above. I could get on-line for a short time before it quit working. Also, my speed got progressively slower, down to 3-4 kbps! It was never faster than 30kbps.

I contacted support for help. After a day, like other's have seen as well, I was told to un-install and then download the new "test2" for the BB. I didn't feel especially optimistic when the end of the e-mail said, "Let me know if this resolves your issue." Don't you know how to resolve this? Many people are having the same problem. By the time I got around to getting that done, my trial version expired. I again contacted support asking how to resolve my trial version problem, and I was told, "Currently we are unable to extend the trial version."

So, my summary is this:
Tetherberry currently doesn't work on many phones and carriers.
Tetherberry has been silent about any fix on their threads!
Tetherberry hasn't even acknowledged the problem, so some people are buying the product and then finding it doesn't work.
When I tried to work with Tetherberry to get this fixed so I could purchase their product, I received a single line response saying they couldn't extend the trial version.

I'm baffled how a business can respond so poorly, put out a product that often doesn't work, remain mum on the problem, and take people's money who unknowingly purchase it.

I'd love to have a Tetherberry solution and support the product, but so far have been unable to get help from Tetherberry support.

I'm hoping this will help!

I contacted support by e-mail and was also advised to download on my blackberry a new jad. This didn't help.

I was running the latest blackberry OS offered via Blackberry desktop manager update (4.5.069).

This weekend I received an e-mail from blackberry to update and this updated me to 4.5.0.174. This has now illiminated the java.io.IOException error and I was able to use tetherberry for first time ! (bit slow but Im in a poor connection area)

Tetherberry support was giving good and timely advice.

I note the Blackberry Desktop Manager now offers an extra button "IP Modem" - Set up your BB as a wireless IP modem for internet access - seems that BB have seen the TB requirement !!!!!!

Been using the new .JAD file since it was posted on 9/9 and no appreciable change on my BB Bold 9000. Still receiving Java IO exceptions followed by the requisite hang and required power off.

Tetherberry 1.0.13
BB OS 4.6.0.297

I'm a beta tester for Mac and sure don't plan on buying this program if I have to reboot my device every 10 minutes.

We are coming out with a new version which will should fix this problem since we are using a different protocol.
