IMPORTANT!
See 9/10/11 update at bottom!
As of 9/8/11 I have plethora of issues that have cropped up using your program in the last 48 hours. There are other issues that I have posted to your forum before but these are the most important to me rite now.
Using:
Samsung Prevail on Boostmobile latest version of Tether
Single click root and stock ROM since new 3 months ago
Location: Western part of Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Coverage is excellent.
Computer 1:
Acer Netbook WinXP 32 bit fully updated
Computer 2:
Desktop computer, AMD 3.2Ghz. dual core
WinXP 32 bit service pack 3; needing further updates
Desktop computer did NOT have tether on it until this morning.
Issues:
The phone itself is working fine and all other apps installed are working fine also except as noted below.
1. When logging into Yahoo Mail; login succeeds but hangs loading actual mail webpage (blank).
2. Attempted run windows update and got “403 Error You do not have the proper credentials to access this page”
3. Attempted to download a small 6 Mb manual update for Windows WITHOUT using update page; shows file downloading one block on screen then hangs. Tether app on PC shows complete file downloaded via data count, Tether app on phone shows no movement Or in some cases 1-2K then stalls, log on phone shows connected. Can’t find file anywhere on computer even though it says it was downloaded to “temp” file for IE8 in my user account under Documents and Settings.
4. I can browse general web pages and I can stream multimedia.
ACER Netbook:
1. All the same issues as above.
I have FULLY uninstalled Tether from both of the computers and reinstalled application including Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable ( the only version of this on either computer) with cold boot between reinstalls. No other software has been installed on the Netbook or Desktop in the last few weeks. I thought that it was Java issue and attempted to down load the app and the same issues occurred.
Connected to a local access point with Netbook and all issues went away.
No changes in firewalls, anti-virus or any other system changes have been made and computers ARE “clean”.
As a side note, I also had Wi-Fi Hot Spot/tether 3.1 Beta 6
For Root Users from Android Market. It to has ceased to work No matter how many times I reinstall it or configure it. It DOES connect with my Netbook but blank pages are all I get. I changed the browser identifier and it DID connect for few seconds on Google and yahoo then back to same blank pages. Returned the IE8 browser BACK to stock identifier and got blank pages.
My usage on the Boost network was about 2.6 Gb LAST month and only about 225 Mb for this month.
I am an MS network engineer and systems integrator and I am fully astute of software issues running in the back ground on devices and computers and I can assure you this is not an issue. I have examined all the PC logs and have found nothing. You are also using static IPs in this program which I have a ton of questions about but that’s for another day.
I install Tether on MANY of my client’s phones and laptops and I am concerned that this issue may propagate to other users IF it is related to Sprint/Boost blocking tethering of ANY kind. If you have any news or fixes for these issues, please notify me ASAP.
Sincerely,
(redacted)
Update 9/10/11:
Returned to Lake City Florida today from Fort Lauderdale, 325 miles away, Wi-Fi Hot Spot For Root Users works again and I can now download PC based files using “Tether”. Nothing has changed in the computer!
Apparently, some “Tether” functions and all of Wi-Fi Hot Spot For Root Users IS BEING BLOCKED geographically in south Florida. Both locations are Boostmobile/Sprint towers/network.
In Fort Lauderdale before my return to Lake City:
Additionally I attempted for several hours to download ANY PC based software file with “Tether” and they were either blocked or just barely start then stall and time out. Netflix and all the other legitimate media streaming sites continued to work

Hello,
The issues you have described could very well be location related, and I would definitely check with your wireless carrier to see if certain sites are blocked based on geographical regions. If you were able to successfully download files, run updates, and even continue to stream media, it seems the issues you are experiencing are based solely on where you were located. I'm sorry.
