Running Vista x64 received this error "failed to pre-install the driver" when I go to install TetherBerry. Any ideas?

I read that Vista x64 requires the driver to be digitally signed, do we know if it is?

When I fired up TetherBerry I get this message: "Could not connect to network adapter."

Did you ever get a response to this. I am having the exact same problem. Windows Vista 64bit is running latest updates and the reg key required is there. I have tried everything I found in forums and it still comes up with the "Failed to pre-install the Driver". I was able to install this with no problem on Windows 7 64 bit laptop, but not Vista.

Right click the setupdrv.exe file and choose run as administrator.

Sorry forgot to mention I did that too. Basically I have done everything I was able to search for on this forum with similiar error. That was actually one of the first things I did.

What about running the installation in compatibility mode?

Also tried that with compatiblility mode for windows XP (sp2) and it failed. I didn't try any others should I? It installed like a breeze on windows 7, but Vista of course is causing me grief.

I'm not entirely sure about Vista Business edition, perhaps this is the problem.

I will see if I can find out anything relating to Vista Business and let you know.

Could you open the Windows Device manager, highlight Tether under the "Network adapters" tab then right click and select "Uninstall". Reboot your PC.

Open Windows Device Manager again after the PC has been rebooted and click on the "Action" menu then click "Add legacy hardware".

Click next on the dialog your shown, then click the radio button "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)", click "Show All Devices" and the "Next" button, click the "Have Disk" button, click "browse" from the dialog that appears and browse to the Tether installation folder in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tether" and click the "qrkis.inf" file and click the "Open" button, click the "Ok" button and now you should see a window listing "Tether Ethernet Adapter" if you do not you must repeat the process carefully, select the "Next" button and then "Next" again for the final installation.

If you receive any error message please write the error down and post it.

One step ahead of you, I have already tried this and it gets all the way to the end then I get "access denied" . UAC is not activated and I am an adminstrative user. Have tried as my adminstrative user and as admin user. Same result.

I can't think of a reason why the above instructions would not work.

You don't show a Tether and Tetherberry adapter in the Device manager do you?

Make sure you turn off any anti-virus protection program. Depends what kind of you are using, some anti-virus protection policy may prevent you to run "install" properly.

I had anti virus turned off, I even tried to install in safe mode. My final solution was to downgrade to XP pro and tether installed with no issue and I am currently using problem free. I will upgrade it to windows 7 when it becomes available at work, but for now I am thru dealing with the failed vista installations.
