I have a Blackberry Bold 9700 with ATT. I am getting this "Failed to find an available port" error.

Trying a connection
Failed to find an available port.
Please exit the application via the menu and try again.

I went to https://www.webmessenger.com/support/APN.jsp but there are too many options. My current APN is set as

Carrier:Cingular Orange/MediaWorks (USA)
APN:wap.cingular
User name:WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM or blank
Password: CINGULAR1

What should I do?

Sorry I didn't see your post until now, did you get Tether to function?

Hi,

I also have this same problem.

I have the latest version of the desktop and mobile tether. Nothing I have done has made it work do far :(

Thanks

Who is your carrier nick_stags? Are you attempting a Bluetooth or USB connection?

It seems your issue could be related to your BlackBerry OS, could you tell me what version your running?

On your BlackBerry click the Options icon and choose About, it will tell you information similar to what mine is:

BlackBerry 8130
Smartphone (CDMA)
v4.5.175 (Platform 3.4.0.55)

Could you please post this information back here.

Hi,

My OS is 5.0.0.509. (Curve 8520)
Platform 5.2.0.47

However, my Girlfriend is using a different OS on the 8520 and she is having the same problem.

Ok that is probably not it then, this issue was related to the 4.5 series of BlackBerry OS.

The only other thing I could think of offhand is your APN settings are wrong, but I don't know for sure as I don't know what the proper settings are for Orange. I will do some digging and see what else I can come up with, until then go ahead and email support and give them a heads up to the situation your experiencing.

I'm sorry that your still having trouble, I believe your APN should be set to either proxy or public and the username and passwords should be blank.

Have you tried these APN settings?

Your welcome, the speed of Tether will vary depending on what your current type of data connection is 3G, EDGE, etc..etc and how strong your signal is to that connection.
