Do you have HTC Sync installed on your PC?

If so could you remove it?

Tether has a known issue with HTC Sync installed on the PC.

1.) On your Android click Settings -> Applications and place a check in the box for "Unknown sources" then click Development and place a check in the box next to "USB debugging".

2.) On your Android click Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> click Tether in this list and select Uninstall.

Download and install Tether from the following link please:

Was able to get things running properly, had to switch phone to internet connection mode. Thanks for your input.

Are you sure? Internetconnection mode should make you tether from your Verizon account, which you pay extra for. I talked to a Verizon salesman who uses this tether service on his old croid x, he fells that IC mode on the Thunderbolt will cause uyou to tether from Verizon NOT tether.

No it will not since you are using the Tether software.

When using the Tether software to Verizon they think you are browsing the internet on your Smartphone.

I've had a lot of issues with Tether on my T-bolt. Compared to Verizon's hotspot/tether service it's frankly not worth it thus far.
Issues:

-Pages randomly don't fully load / stop loading (refreshing pages will sometimes work, sometimes only load half again)
-Tether service will randomly stop sending/receiving and require restart of application or even phone
-HTC has 'usb' options when loading - not sure if I should be running it on "Charge Only" or "Hard Disk" or what; sometimes it works on either, but neither is better either as far as I can see
-Can't run any pings to test connections to see if these issues are do to time outs, or what.

Any help on this?

Hopefully so - my friend uses Tether on his EVO without issue, even getting good 4g speeds, and we used tetherberry prior to Tether's change

When plugging the Android into the PC you would select USB Charging.

When Tether does not work could you provide the following :

Could you provide us with the exact wording for what Tether says on the PC?

When Tether is running on the Android could you press the Android menu button and select "View logs". Could you provide me with the logging information?

Of course I set that when I installed the software (and I've checked it since).
The stopping has been happening more since the thunderbolt firmware update.
The only other component I've checked is the USB cable - and it seems to work the same (badly) on different cables.

I'm on 2.2.1

My current error in the log is:

Could not create the TCP socket to:
/67.215.65.132:8530 Err: java.net.SocketException:
The operation timed out

This occurs after it was working fine for a few minutes.

Back to an old issue that still has not been resolved. "Please mqake sure USB debugging is enabled on your Android" again, it has been since day 1, I check it every time it comes up and it IS enabled. Quite frustrating. Have not been able to get online for over an hour because of this.

Hello,

One thing that may assist you is to reinstall Tether on your Android device. Please follow the steps below:

1. On your Android click on Settings -> Applications, and place a check in the box for "Unknown sources", then click Development, and place a check in the box next to "USB debugging".

2.) On your Android click on Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> select Tether from this list and select "Uninstall".

After doing that can I have you download and install Tether by opening up a web browser on your Android device and going to the following website:

http://tether.com/a/tether.apk

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Just wondering if this issue has ever been resolved. I see several threads, but no resolutions.

I also have the Thunderbolt on Verizon, and am not able to access the internet with my purchased android version. Sends, but doesn't receive....

Thanks!
