So how exactly does this work?

For a CDMA dialer you use #777, which does not use any of your minutes.

Does the software dial a phone number and use my minutes?

Not sure exactly how this works and I only have 500 minutes. That's because I can use BBM... ahhhhh... I love you BBM!

This software uses your data plan and not a voice connection.

if you are going oversea, you need to check with your carrier for what type of "international data plan" you have with your phone. Your "domestic unlimited data plan" will not cover your international data usage. most of US carrier do offer "international unlimited data plan" which is a separate charge. "Per KB plan" international data usage could get expensive if you use a lot of data.
