Desktop Client Version - Need Sticky
Wed, 03/10/2010 - 19:40
We need a sticky forum topic that lets us know what is the latest available desktop client.
I was running 1.1.0.1 and did not even know that there was a 1.1.0.2 but when I let tether download the desktop client this is what version I ended up with.
I'm not sure I like the way the new client goes about getting a bluetooth connection, but I can tell you guys did it for future purposes.
Anyway it's all working great, bluetooth speeds still aren't there but all in all I'm satisfied.
I think we are going to start a "Changelog" in the Updates forum. It will be stickied.
What problems do you have with our new Bluetooth version? It should be a lot faster in terms of usability.

Well the problem is my speed is 'limited' to exactly half of what I get over USB using Bluetooth.
On good days I get download speeds of 50 kB (kilobytes) a second over USB and over Bluetooth I get around 25 kB (kilobytes) a second with the same file, same server.
I have a Cambridge CSR Class 1 Bluetooth 2.0+ dongle and a Pearl 8130 on Verizon, the speeds are the same regardless of OS...using Windows XP Home on an Acer One netbook and Windows 7 Ultimate (32-Bit) on my Dell XPS M1530.
It's like something is limiting my speeds while using Bluetooth, I'm an advanced PC user with years of ISP technical support under my belt so its not something as simple as an id-10t error on my part.
I notice your driver hasn't been updated even though the server/client software has been renewed multiple times....I feel like this is where the issue lies...along with the resume from sleep issues some of use have been experiencing.
And a stickied changelog would be great.

Our engineers, always said that Bluetooth will be slower than USB. Something to do with the hardware on the BlackBerry phone.
I don't know all the details from the technical perspective. Sorry, I can't be of more assistance.

It is my phone I believe, while I have a (Bluetooth) download going the phone interface becomes notably slower.
But the fastest speeds I have seen on this forum was from a user of my same phone (Pearl 8130), but I'm sure this was over USB. You even commented that it was the fastest you had heard Patrick.
Not any kind of deal breaker, maybe its just time for a new phone....something running Android if RIM doesn't release that new webkit browser soon.
