I successfully used my Dell Netbook w/XP and a Blackberry Storm w/Tether for Blackberry. After upgrading to Droid X I removed and reinstalled Tether on the Netbook, and Tether on the Droid. Droid seems to be working OK and waiting for connect from the Netbook. After several attempts to reload, and de-install Tether, and entering the new registration for Droid connection, I am getting the following message: This application has failed to start because WINUSB.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Have tried re-install, including re-boots, to no avail. Help, please

1 - Please uninstall Tether from the PC.

2- Download winusb.dll attached to this email and save it to C:\Windows\System 32 (I have emailed you the winusb.dll file)

3- Reboot the PC.

4- Install Tether from the following link:

http://tether.com/a/setup.exe

I didn't see the winusb.dll link in any reply, so found the link: http://dllcentral.com/winusb.dll/6.0.6000.16386/ on another thread of similar problems with Tether for PC and Android. I downloaded this file and put it in the system32 directory.

Downloaded and installed the http://tether.com/a/setup.exe.

When directed, I connected Droid to PC with USB cable following instructions, got response: Tether.exe - Bad Image. The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\WINUSB.DLL is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

Perhaps there is a newer or other WINUSB.DLL somewhere? Please send link to file and I will download. Thanks for the help.

The link "http://dllcentral.com/winusb.dll/6.0.6000.16386/" has been removed due to the new error message.

I will send you the correct winusb.dll file via email.

After a couple more failed attempts, I checked the properties of the winusb.dll and it was locked as it came from another computer. I unlocked it and applied the settings, then removed Tether (again), restarted, re-installed Tether (again) and (pausing while I'm waiting for the results.........) still waiting for MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable......Install completed.

Same response..... WINUSB.DLL is not a valid Windows image.

Sadness prevails. Why won't this work?

Confirmed Droid X is in USB debugging while connected mode.

Did you save it to c:\windows\system32?

I have provided this winusb.dll file to all users experiencing this issue with all success.

Yes, it's saved to c:\windows\system32. Filesize is 15.9KB, created yesterday April 11, 2011, at 8:38:20 AM. I'll send a picture to your email.

The issue has been resolved . The incorrect winusb.dll file was not in place under c:\windows\system32.

Anyone looking for the winusb.dll file can download it from the following webpage:

Thanks Matt. Your new link to the winusb.dll file worked just fine. I'm in business now with Tether.
