connected both laptop and bb9700 no conection and cable have tried reloading tether on both bb and laptop. Also butons do not show up on laptop they are blank?

Lets troubleshoot here in the forum, much quicker.
Could you give me the exact wording for what the Status line of Tether says on the PC?
While Tether is running and connected press the BlackBerry key and select "View Log", could you provide me with any errors in the log?

Do you show a Tether network adapter?
Click the Windows Start menu and select run, in the run dialog type without quotes "ncpa.cpl" and hit enter. If you are on Windows 7 or Windows Vista you may simply click the Windows Start menu and type "ncpa.cpl" into the search box and hit enter.
This is where you should see the Tether adapter, while Tether is running is the adapter enabled?

There should be an IP address associated with the Tether network adapter.
The buttons being blank is a visual bug, it does not interfere with the operation of Tether in any way. If you were to enable Windows XP visual theme support you would be able to see the button text.
