Thanks

What version of iPhone OSX are you currently using?

Which version of web browser are you currently running on your iPhone?

Could you update Safari to the latest version possible to see if this helps?

Is Java enabled in Safari?

I am having a similar problem with iPhone IOS 5.1 and a MBA running the latest version of Lion and Safari. All my software is up-to-date. Yes, Java is enabled. The FAQs don't address this problem and I didn't see much here on this forum. I paid for this, so I expect technical support and for the product to work.

Thanks,
Bill

I just got it connected to my mac.
I found out that you have to release and renew the ip address on the mac and it should connect.
I'm writing this on the tether.
It seems like a lot of steps to keep connected. I was hoping for something similar to mi-wi. But will settle for this if it stays connected.

It appears that the dev didn't intend to support iOS. It's not in the FAQS and there is no forum for iOS.

I knew this was too good to be true. I'm awaiting a trouble ticket answer myself.

I'm having the same problem - Unable to connect to the Tether proxy. Doesn't matter if I renew the DHCP. Sending packets at a decent rate but receiving none. Very bummed!

Hello,

Could I have you power off your iPhone by holding in the Sleep/Wake key until you see Slide to power off, then power off your iPhone? After that is done could I have you turn your phone back on and try establishing a connection to Tether again?

Joseph no longer works for Tether. Please open a ticket on our support system.

this worked for me windows 7 and iphone 4s

connect phone to laptop
open tether on laptop
ad-hoc SSID seems like i have to change that everytime i log in
password not needed
phone go to settings/wifi/tether link
(tether app on cell login
attempting tether proxy .if it doesn't connect hit the refresh button) If that doesn't work turn phone off as suggested

if i go to any app/talk on the phone while connected i will have to go back to the tether app on the cell phone and refresh
turn app off when done as this burn through the data
Tether is great app.

Power on and off? You can't seriously believe that we didn't think to try that. Been there and done that more than once.

I'm off to check on the refund policy after trying once more to connect.

I had a problem at first, but then I rebooted my Mac.

Started the Tether App in the Applications folder, then connected via iPhone and it took about 30-45 seconds, but then connected and stats are being reported in the tether app on the mac now.

Thanks!

Yes, that's exactly what I did to get it to work.

I had difficulties connecting to the iPhone. The Tether app did not see my iPhone at first. This version: http://downloads.tether.com/TetherWeb-2.1.0.2.dmg solved that problem. Then, the iPhone app could not connect to my computer This was caused by ONAVO, an app to save on data traffic. To solve, go to Configuration>General>Profiles and delete the Onave profile. To reenable Onave after you're done, start the Onave app. It will detect the profile is not installed correctly and offers you to fix this.

Now works like a charm!

I just got it to connect. I tried following jjanton suggestion, but didn't find where to reset the lease on the Mac. Instead, after selecting the adhoc network on the device, I renewed the device's lease. AFAICT, that's the only different I did after trying umpteen times to get this working.

To upgrade to iOS5.1 or not?

I am considering upgrading my iPhone from i0S 5.0.1 to 5.1.

My MBPro runs OS 10.7.3 and the latest Tether software.

I have had no trouble as both devices are currently configured.

Does iOS 5.1 still permit tethering or has Apple used the upgrade to throw a kill switch? Experiences with upgrading and functionality welcomed.

Here are some basic check points to be checked:

Please ensure that you have the recent version.
Also,
1:On your iPhone go to the Settings icon.
Scroll down and click on Safari.
Make sure "Accept Cookies" is not set as Never.
Javascript is ON.
Private Browsing is OFF.

2:Make sure WiFI is On on your laptop
3:Firewall is on "always allow" mode, if you are using third party.make sure allows following file
tether.exe
TBservice.exe
TCP 6354 Inbound
UDP 67 Inbound

Please also follow the manual provided below:

Here's what worked for me... I was getting the "Cannot connect to Tether proxy" on the phone side over and over again. So... on the iPhone:

Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies
Settings > Safari > Clear Cache

I guess that Tether.com/web had updated something either in a JavaScript or a cookied server location, so it kept trying with my cached information.

When I went back to tether.com/web, it started right up.

Very quirky and unreliable and I am glad my life does not depend upon this app. i was raving about it on the front end...although there are WAY too many steps to get connected...but now it is like something a third grader wrote. My repeated issue is failure to connect to the proxy server, which not on my end. Not recommended. And FWIW, there is no such thing on an iPhone 4s as Settings>Safari>Clear Cache.

Update...two minutes after posting the above paragraph, it connected like a champ. Still quirky though and the jury is still out.

Update to the update...nope; ten minutes later I'm back in the penalty box again. Can connect to one or the other but not both and it is different each time which one doesn't connect. Plus, if it does connect to the server, the connection to the Mac cycles from connected to not connected over and over. Save your money here and go get two vodka martinis at your favorite watering hole.

I find it works most of the time, but its really hit or miss. Sometimes it takes 2 or more attempts to connect. Sometimes, it won't connect at all. This last time after repeated failure, I bounced the Wi-fi on the phone (turn off, turn on). It connected right away.

Here is what i find interesting, and maybe Verizon has a monkey wrench in the works for all I know because I know they would love to put a stop to all this, but like Mvalentiner said, it is hit or miss with no pattern, maybe/ maybe not, sometimes yes, sometimes no, etc. but with my 3G iPad it connects every time. Same settings, same everything. Go figure.

Please check this three possible issues again.
1. Firewall is disabled or exclusion is worked out as suggested.
2. Wi-Fi - ensure that it is enabled. Also, you can disable it once & enable again.
3. IT policy (if you are using the phone / service provided by company) - please ensure that it is not the case.

Also, make sure that the phone is actually connected to the adhoc network, i.e. it shows a 3G symbol not the wifi symbol

Also, you can give following suggestion a try, it may also solve the issue.
1. Please power off both phone & computer. Then power on again & retry. This should solve the problem.
2. Please disable Wi-Fi on both phone & PC / MAC, then enable again. This should solve the issue.
3. If you have Onavo Extend installed on your iPhone please uninstall it as it may prevent tether from working.

Let me know if you need any further assistance on any of these steps.

Thanks for the update, Christopher !
Restarting Mac is very seldom necessary, however please refer my last message it was suggested there.
