Hi,

Been a tether(berry) user for almost a year now with great success. I've almost always used it in USB mode without problems but recently I picked up a cheap BT dongle and figured I'd give it a spin. I had everything working fine using the default MS stack but after a week or so I decided to try the IVT/bluesoleil stack not realizing that it is not compatible/supported by Tether. So I promptly removed it and went back to the default Windows 7 drivers.

At first I though it had something todo with the 1.0.0.5/.6 beta's I was playing with but I couldn't get it work with BT anymore. Plugging in USB worked great, so I then narrowed it down further by installing tether on my desktop and setting it up there without making any changes to my blackberry. Ok that worked too both in USB mode and BT mode. So between installing the other BT stack and then removing it and going back to MS's stack.. now it won't work. ugh.

To be clear, BT is working-It's paired, it sees my 9530 no problem. I launch tether (runas administrator)!, click on bluetooth, the devices list popups, my 9530 is the only device it finds and I select it and then I'm immediately shown this 'Tether - Error'; 'Failed to connect to the Tether service' dialog. It had me thinking that the Tether service (TBService.exe) wasn't running but if I check the services list it's set to automatic and running, and restarting it doesn't seem to help.

I'm at a loss. Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to sleep on this for now!

PS, Yes I've tried removing/deleting the BT drivers in the device manager again and reinstalling them, including swapping ports. I've removed all instances of tether I could find, rebooted between this and reinstalled both the latest stable and newest beta with the same result different times. Willing to try anything to figure this out!

Thanks.

Bump. Does anyone have any suggestions? This is most aggravating now.

I even went back to a system restore from a month ago without success :(

In your network adapters do you show a Tether adapter? Does Tether currently work over USB?

Yes, I still have the Tether Network Adapter. Yes, it still works if I plug it into USB, I mentioned that on my first post!

I tried removing ALL of my networking adapters/drivers and re-installing without success.

I guess my my next step is to triple check that it's using the MS stack... which would be checking the individual drivers? Device Manager here I go...

Autobot, do you know of any other way to make sure that I have the MS stack installed and it's being used vs a different vendor/implementation? Other then using the device manager/checking easy driver?

Thanks!

Aha, FIXED.

So I had 2x 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device' with no drivers installed / question marks in the Device Manager. I had done some research on this the other day, but I figured it was just detecting other devices in range that had not synced yet-or at least that was the impressive I had walked away from given I am not as familiar with Bluetooth as I would like. Turns out this was my whole problem.

After doing a bit of digging I found several posts that said that they are actually RIM Virtual Serial Ports. So updated the drivers and manually selected them from the Ports list and everything is working great again.

Thanks. Maybe this thread will be helpful for someone else if they ever get similar behaviour!

Thank you very much HIghoS, your post is helpful indeed.

I read your first post and was just making sure you still were able to connect after installation/uninstallation of various drivers and such.
