This is a minor annoyance. This has been happening since I got the trial. I thought it might go away once I purchased it, but it hasn't. Basically, I open up Tether on my phone and computer and I get the window on my computer to select the Bluetooth device. I pick my phone and it searches and then I get an error saying that it couldn't find the tether service on the device. Then it searches again and brings up the same window, where I select my phone, at which point I connect immediately. This happens every time. 1 error and then a connection on the second go round. It would be nice to not have to go through that every time.

Try to delete current BB device that you have paired from PC, also remove the PC device from your BB device, then re-pair the phone to the PC, and make sure DO NOT select and configure any bluetooth profiles such as dial up network and/or serial port profiles, etc. All you need to do is pair the device, Tether application will take care the rest.
