Will there be a tether app when the playbook is released? If not, how long will it take for that to become available?
Blackberry Playbook Tether App
Since the Playbook has access to android Apps can I transfer my wife's android license to the Playbook?
If not can I purchase an additional android license for the Playbook?
Unfortunately, I am not getting a Playbook unless Tether is available .
Also is Tether available for use with any of the droid tablets?
At this time information on the BlackBerry Playbook has not been determined. Will update once more information is available.
Tether currently does not support Android based PC's. Tether is looking into supporting Android based PC's in the near future.

Will the playbook even need a tether app for blackberry phones? From one demonstration, it appears that internet tethering is built in for bluetooth dun profiles. Does the bold 9700 have this built in? Here is the video
I found a cool explanation to how the tether works on the playbook. If you have a blackberry smartphone, you can browse the internet using your phones 3g network without a tethering plan or app through blackberry bridge browsing.
If you don't have a blackberry, you will have to pay for tethering or use a tether app.
So tether, will you guys still make an app? I wonder how blackberry bridge browsing will integrate with other apps that may use the cells network ...
Here is the info on blackberry bridge browsing
Tether is still looking over the BlackBerry Playbook before it will be developed.
Will update once more information is available.
I purchased a playbook mainly to connect with my BB phone. The bridge app does work for most things but very slow on browsing. I do hope that tether does come out with an app eventually.
Love TetherB for my laptop, can't wait for a Playbook application!
If you need any beta testers... ;)
Keep up the great work!
Now that the playbook is out will Tether make an app. I have the Playbook but need Tether! Love it for my laptop. Please let us know quickly. I don't want to keep the playbook if I can't tether it.
Tether is looking into supporting the BlackBerry Playbook.
At this time Tether does not have a time frame.
Since Verizon wants to charge me an additional $20 per month to use my PB through my BB so that I can use other apps including Bing Maps, Poynt, Slacker and Youtube, just name a few, I would be very willing to pay for this app again for my PB. I currently use Tether for my laptop. It really annoys the crap out of me, that my cell phone bill is already astronomically higher than it should be, and Verizon wants me to pay more for a data plan that I already subscribe to. Of course, I realize that it isn't just Verizon, but this is quite absurd. I really hope you guys can develop this very soon.
I am also interested in Tether for PB. Will look forward to this in the future...
Thanks.
I have been testing the BB Bridge on the PB and hopefully some updates will be done on the browser. Currently it seems to have problems with larger webpages opening. I would be very happy if it can get up to the same speed or a close match of tethering my laptop.
Just another prayer that Tether will create a module for the Playbook.
And, F2, would be willing to beta test if that module is developed.
What I have done on the Bridge Browser that seems to help is disable Flash, javascript and pictures from loading. This has helped a lot especially on sites with a lot of junk on the page. If I come across a site that needs either to view what I need then I turn them back on. PS make sure you are on the Bridge browser options if you try this.
+1 to that list of people wanting tether for PB. This would be amazing.
Beta testers needed? :D
I also LOVE tether and I hope to see it for the playbook soon. If it is as good as the version i use for my lap top i will keep sending my friends you way! I recommend your product all the time. I am not so please with the bridge browser and would prefer tether. I will not be purchasing a tether plan thru my carrier. I pay them too much now! PLEASE hook us up on the playbook!!
Bridge browser is unacceptable. Please bring on tether for PB! Also down for beta testing....
I keep playing with the PB....and my tethered laptop when away from wifi....please bring Tether to the Playbook.
It would seem only logical for Tether you have the app for the PB. I'm wondering though if they will charge you for another license since most users have a license for our Blackberry smartphones. I would think it would just be available as a download and all we would have to do is type in our license code on the PB to activate it.
Duplicate post.
Even if they charged for the PB tether app it would still be worth it. Still better then paying the carrier tether charge monthly. I'd definatly would buy a PB version if it was being charged for.
Just don't want you fine folks at Tether to think we've given up on coaxing a Playbook version out of your fine, talented programmers.
Thanks for considering an app for the Playbook
I've had my playbook almost a month now and have noticed an improvement in the bridge browser yet still could use some improvement. I wonder if the lag is because of the difference in operating systems. Anyway I say again the tether app would be a nice backup for those of us on the road a lot.
The limitation with the Blackberry Bridge browser is that it is limited on bandwidth if you are connected to a BES. Unfortunately, due to the BES limitations, the internet is cut off at a certain point especially when browsing the internet sites like You Tube through the bridge browser. Oftentimes you get a "Requested entity is too large" message when you meet that point where the content being loaded is above a certain level. When using Tether, that limitation is bypassed and you are able to use the internet connection unfettered, especially for those who have an unlimited data plan.
So yes, please please please, give me a Tether app for my Playbook.
I so gladly pay for the app, even though I already have it for my other computer.
Just another vote for a Playbook App. I've had my Playbook for 3 weeks and love it, but want Tether for my Blackberry + Playbook.
I would also love to see a Tether app for my Playbook.
Thanks!
Nick R.
and yet another.... PLEASE come out with Playbook Tether...........
Please support the Playbook. I love Tether and I love my Playbook.
Please develop a Playbook app. I love Tether!
Thanks for listening!!
Thank you everyone for your interest in Tether for the Playbook. At this time, however, it is not supported. Tether does not have a time frame on when it will be supported. Tether will keep everyone informed on when that will happen.
Sorry if this is a silly question. Does this means that i cannot use tether with my playbook yet?
Well, since you folks are now running a contest where the prize is a Playbook, I wonder if this is a sign that maybe an app for the Playbook is more imminent?
Feel free to contact me for beta testing when it becomes closer to reality.
my guess is they're done trying to figure it out and they are giving their PB away!
hi i from mexico and i have a playbook and need tether for playbook, i stay fron them, thanks.
Any update on a release date for a Tether app for Playbook?
Hello,
There is presently no release date for Tether for the Playbook yet, but we are still working on it.
hey im na new user but im try to use tether with my mac but it doesn't work..... i use it via usb
the message is : tether is not running on the blackberry.... always like that
Hello,
You have to have Tether running on both your Blackberry device as well as your Mac PC in order to use Tether. Please start Tether on your Blackberry in USB mode, and then test Tether.
Considering that BlackBerry tethering was your raison d'etre (tetherBERRY), one would think you guys would have a little more haste in producing a (good) tethering app for the PlayBook. LOL I don't want Verizon vulturing more of my money to use something that I'm already paying for with my BlackBerry.
I haven't tried developing anything for any of these devices, but I have done a little reading about the process for submitting apps to RIM for approval, and it seems like a long drawn out process. And who knows whether or not they are getting resistance because of the cell phone companies. A couple of weeks ago, jwells said they were working on it.
Another thing I had read in some of the developer forums on RIM's website, is that RIM has not released all the controls to the developers yet either. That could definitely cause problems.
I do hope they figure it out and get it approved though...
Me too!
why would it have to go thru app world. couldn't tether be sideloaded
Now with the latest OS update on the PlayBook, Tether is no longer needed. The regular browser and the internet enabled apps now work through Bridge as well as wifi. Maybe the fine folks at Tether knew that was coming and that is the reason they didn't bother to release a version for the PlayBook.
Still no news on a Tether app for the Playbook? It has been seven months since Tether said they were working on it. Very disappointing.
Just got my Playbook and can not get to Internet using Bridge and my BB phone. Is there a secret to this no one is talking about? WIFI is rarely available and usually not free when out and about.
May depend on your carrier. For AT&T, you need to upgrade your data package to 4GB + Tethering, which will set you back another $20/mo. Hello Tether? Where's our PB to BB App??
Tether is looking into supporting the BlackBerry Playbook in the near future but at this time do not have a date.
Folks-
From what I've read from other developers, the issue at hand is RIM releasing Bluetooth on the PB to developers. There are at least a couple of developers that were waiting on access to Bluetooth...

Tether is looking into supporting the BlackBerry Playbook.
Tether will be developing the software when the BlackBerry Playbook has been released.
At this time there is no time frame for the release for Tether for the BlackBerry Playbook.
