It fails to make a connection when I follow all the instructions at http://tether.com/android/download

"2.On your Android phone go to Settings->Applications->Development and check USB debugging. This step is very important."

Unfortunately it does not say what connection type to use?
We have the options of "Charge only, disk drive, HTC sync, Mobile broadband connect"

I see others have the same issue:
http://tether.com/htc-incredible-issue

For me it hangs trying to make a USB connection.
it just keeps switching back and forth telling me "Please make sure USB
debugging is enabled on your Android", as well as saying "Connected to
Android. Checking USB settings."

- On the phone, it only states "Waiting for connection over USB.

What is the USB connection type suppose to be as it offers Charge Only, HTC Sync, Disk Drive, and Moble broadband connect?

The default is "Charge only". But none of them seem to help. Mobile Broadband connect does not even get past the registration check. The others get to the USB connection trying at least and flashes the messages above and checking USB settings.

I saw at least one person got it to work and another once in a while.

Can someone please tell us what the trick is to making it work?

I am using tether version v 1.4.4.0 on PC and v 1.1.0.1 on the phone.

The Phone log just says:
Trial License
Waiting for connection over USB

I was able to resolve this issue by doing the following with a customer:

"Could you remove HTC Sync from the PC and select "Share Internet Connection" when selecting a USB type?"

Let me know if this work because I will have to look into this issue further.

OK that is pretty wierd.

I did what you said kind of.

I removed HTC Sync from my Desktop PC (since I do HTC Sync usually from my laptop).

Then I tried tether.
On the Phone HTC Incredible it still shows
the USB type choices are:
Charge Only
HTC Sync
Disk Drive
Mobile Broadband Connect

(So there was not a "Share Internet Connection" USB type like your message said it would have on the phone)

I let it default to "Charge Only" and then started Tether on the Driod Incredible.

It immediatly connected! And it started passing data packets back and forth.

So removing HTC Sync from the PC seems to fix the issue. HTC SYNC is still installed on the phone.

The order of connecting to tether, which you start first does not seem to matter. Just connect USB as Charge Only and then start tether on the PC and the phone either first and they will sync once both are up.

So Why does it not work with HTC SYNC installed ont he PC? I need to be able to use HTC SYNC.

I also have not actually tried disconnecting my LAN on the PC yet to see if things really work but it does connect and pass packets so I assume the rest will work. I will try that soon.

OK I also actually just tried to use a web browser through tether and had my opther LAN connections disabled. It worked fine.

Speakeasy Speed test had it at
2.54 Mbps download and 0.30 Mbps upload on tether.

That is not as good as my normal LAN connection 27.85 Mbps download and 3.84 Mbps upload (via comcast) but the tether option is for mobile and power outages and would be fine for those cases.

So if you can fix it for the case of having HTC Sync installed that would be great.
