Just wanted to throw my two cents in. I have had tether on my blackberry and moved over to android. I LOVE the tether app and use it all the time while Im traveling. I am going to purchase the IPad 3G when it comes out and would rather use the IPad than my netbook while on the road and would love to be able to use my android phone to tether to the IPad. I have a mac pro in my office and dont like using a windows netbook on the road. I only use it for the internet so I dont want to buy a MacBook, But the IPad would be perfect. PLEASE make it happen... Id gladly pay top dollar!!! Thanks
Android Tether for IPad
I run Snow Leopard on my Dell Mini10v netbook and Tether works just great on it. I know it's not what you want to do (netbook vs the iPad) but I just wanted to let you know that there are out of the box solutions to having a Mac based netbook.
Not sure how you'd get the Tether app in into the iTunes App store, I doubt Apple would approve it... which is the main reason I will not be "purchasing" an iPad, is the closed eco-system that Apple uses. I like to tinker with my gadgets.
I agree with you re: closed ecosystem. It's really too bad. The alternative is to make the Android a wifi hotspot, then we dont need to be approved in Apple's store.
Yes, it would be great to have Tether turn your Android phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot (a la MiFi) so that we don't have to pay the $130 premium for the 3G models of the iPad. Patrick, how likely do you think you can make this happen before the release of the iPad 3G?
When is the release of the iPad 3G? Sorry, I haven't had much time to look into the details.
No problem, Patrick. It's "late April", according to the iPad's pre-order page:
Ok. I can't comment on our engineering teams behalf but we are hoping around that time to have something (for the Android anyways).
That would be wonderful, Patrick. The ability to tether--via Wi-Fi hotspot--the iPad to an Android phone on VZW would be the best scenario for me.
Does anyone have any info on tether and the IPAD AS 4/8/2010?
Nothing as of yet, sorry.
does the tether work with the ipad yet? Anyone know? I have an HTC EVO id like to use with it
I think you would have to use a wifi hotspot as the iPad does not have USB correct?
The tether for Android I think only works with USB ports. At least that is what the tether software for my Adroid has for options. USB.
If your iPad does not have USB it will not work. Plus you would also need the software from tether that would run on the iPAD which I do not believe has been created and most likely wont be.
Look into wifi hotspots and have some money ready as they cost every month.
Unless you are asking for tether to create a android Hotspot that you could just wifi to from the iPad. That would be cool as I would guess we could wifi to it from PC or anything else for that matter. That would be real cool. Especially if there was no Wireless fees to pay to the phone company.
I would pay $50-$75 one time for that capability, a tether wifi capability on an android. I woulnder if they are really looking into that?
The Ipad would either need to be connected via Wifi or Bluetooth.
Tether will work with USB or Bluetooth.
Tether does not support the Ipad at this time.
We are currently looking to adding this feature in the near future.
Can you bluetooth to an Ipad?
I just want to throw one more vote into the bucket for tether via wifi to an ipad via whatever mechanism you can think up.
Many of us have laptops and I-pads. Being able to tether to alternative devices would be incredibly valuable to us!
Sorry Tether does not support Bluetooth to the Ipad.
I concur this feature would be extremely valuable, I recently moved from BB to Samsung Epic 4G and also have iPad, the tethering of Android and iPad would be very good.
Any update on when tether will work with the Ipdad?
Thanks
MM
Sorry no updates at this time.
I have been using Tether for years and love it...best investment I made for my laptop.
I recently purchased an iPad-2 (64) and want to tether it to my Droid phone.
Is there a way to do this, or are there plans in the works to make this happen.
Thanks,
d
Tether is looking into supporting it but no updates at this time.

Thanks for the suggestions...
