I've been using tether off and on since March. Simple to install and operate and find it is an essential tool for internet access on the run. Twice when my home dsl went out I used tether to go online to successfully troubleshoot the problem. And on travel I've gone places and tether allows for faster broadband speeds than the motel according to speakeasy speedtest.
Now I have a problem. I'm on a seven day business road trip and I don't know if the destinations will have wifi or not so I really rely on tether. Last night after disconnecting the phone from the Usb cable to make a call outside, when I returned to reconnect it, it doesn't work. AT&T bold 9000 phone says tether is running. XP windows laptop says acquiring network address. I went through my old emails and found the registration code and re-entered that and nothing changes. I did a hard reboot of the blackberry and nothing happens. The license says registered.
Oh by the way, I got a random email two days ago telling me that my trial period has expired which I ignored since I bought this one. Is it possible that somehow it thinks this is the trial version?

The problem is on your PC, not Blackberry device. Most likely, when you decided to make the call, you just simply unplugged phone from PC, and your tether client on PC was not properly terminated, depends on what's running and how your PC's specific configuration, that could cause the Window TCP/IP stack to hung.....
The quick fix is re-start your PC. For the future, always click "Exit" on Tether application before you disconnect the phone from USB if your Tether is running.
